Another reason for Thanksgiving: lower gas prices

As we head in to the holiday season, families will be hitting the road to see loved ones — and this year it will cost drivers less. Gas prices are at the lowest levels since February 2011, averaging $3.19 per gallon across the nation, according to AAA.

In fact, AAA reports that as of Wednesday the national average had dropped a total of 41 cents per gallon since Labor Day.

About one-in-four U.S. stations are selling gas for less than $3 per gallon and only about 10 percent of stations are selling gas for more than $3.50 per gallon, said Michael Green, manager of public relations at AAA.

States with the cheapest gas are Arkansas ($2.93), Kansas ($2.96) and Louisiana ($2.99).

As usual, Hawaii ($4.04) and California ($3.61) have the most expensive gas.

The last time the national average was under $3 per gallon was Dec. 22, 2010.
