Based on bookings so far, "rates are 44 percent more expensive [for this] Super Bowl weekend than the weekend before,” said Jeanenne Tornatore, senior editor at travel booking site Orbitz.com.

Fans attending the game should look for hotels in Jersey City, where average rates are about $387 a night and near Newark Airport, where they are about $335 a night. Manhattan rates average about $418 a night, according to Orbitz booking data, Tornatore said.
