North-American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Sales figures are on a net basis (gross sales less returns, adjustments and discounts) whether on cash or credit, and exclude any taxes collected. Also included are commissions earned by wholesalers also acting as agents, while the sales of goods owned by others are excluded. However, sales to end-users of certain commodities (usually capital or investment goods) such as computer equipment, feed, seed or other farmsupplies, lumber and building materials, trucks and commercial vehicles, and all types of machinery and equipment, are always classified to wholesale trade. The NAICS-based estimates are not comparable with the previously published estimates based on the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) of 1980.
