Securities investment, contract basis. Securities investment refers to flows from the public sector excluding Bank of Japan. Bonds include beneficiary certificates but exclude all bills. The Net data shows the difference of capital inflow and outflow. A positive difference indicates net sales of foreign securities by residents (capital inflow), and a negative difference indicates net purchases of foreign securities by residents (capital outflow). Following a revision of balance of payments related statistics the weekly transaction in securities data is revised starting from January 2005.In the new statistics, portfolio investments are classified based on the residence of issuers of securities, whereas the Outward /Inward classification in the previous statistics was made based on securities currency of denomination.Data before January 2005 are based on the previous compilation methodology. Weekly statistics is based on business days. In most cases a week is made up of five business days. A week may also consist of four days due to holidays. It may also consist of more days, between six and seven. This is the case when a time period of two weeks is aggregated into one business week due to holidays.
