boh...Don't forget qualified dividend. For year 2013, on my CEF holdings, I received 10,480.11. Qualified divvys are just as good as year end bonuses and an investor does not owe taxes on qual div. I do my own taxes and do not pass up any opp to not pay taxes I received qual div on FLC, PFL, PFD, PFO, PFN, AOD, NCZ and NCV. Still have all those CEFs, except AOD. Sold that loser, but can use losses to offset capital gains. Always plotting how to make a buck. What a way to live. Good luck to you.
hill...NRO is one of 2 REITS in my holdings, the other being RIF. That one was known as RMR before merging. I acquired both of them in 07, before the recession set in. They took one hell of a beating, but I decided not to sell. I decided to hold and speculate. I could not believe real estate would not come back When their shares dropped to 1 and 2.00 per shares, I bought 2000 of each and now hold 5000 of each. I still think I did the right thing. I waited too long to sell, would have taken too big a loss. I have to admit I never thought real estate would stay down this long. Win some and then one must wait to see how it all turns out. I would not hesitate buying NRO at todays price. Good luck to you
boh...I only buy CEFs that pay monthly divvy except RIF. That one pays quarterly. I'm heavy into Flaherty/Crumrine,, namely, PFD, PFO,FLC, FFC, & DFP. I also like PIMCO, like, PFN, PFL, PCN, With tax free munis, I have PMF, PML, PMX. and Eaton Vance EIV, EIM.. My 2 favorite money makers are AGIC conv & income funds NCV & NCZ. Other tax free muni is NEA. I try to keep the Feds from grabbing as much as they can. Several of those CEFs pay qualified dividend, which is tax free. I do my own taxes, I just don't trust those so called tax experts Good luck to you. I've been in the market since 1988. It's the only game in town.
Dafe, I made my initial purchase shortly after you cost averaged down. When the yield was 12%"good old days". Out of your other CEF's how many monthly divvy's are there? Always looking for advise if you don't mind sharing your favorites. Smiles in December.
boh...I first bought NRO on 9 Aug 07. Needless to say, I took a lashing in 09 when all investments collapsed. I refused to sell At that time I had 3000 shares and decided to buy 2000 more when the share price hovered around 1.50 a share. I did the same thing with another REIT, RIF, also ending up with 5000 shares. At that time the symbol was RMR. I just could not believe that the real estate sector would remain in the cellar. It's just too big a part of the stock market to ignore. I'm willing to speculate with these 2 CEFs. These 2 are part of 20 CEFs that I hold. All the others are proven, safe, investments, and, profitable. As for year end divvies, I'm wondering the same. Who knows? Good luck to you.
Not to wish away the rest of the year, but my thoughts are if the divvy stays under 5% and discount over 15% that = a nice end of year divvy for all. These guys hate raising and lower it month to month a penny or so. Look at the history and they are notorious for the Christmas presents in December.
My guess is that you will not see a monthly dividend increase. A special end of year dividend is more likely.
