You just lost a few quarters of dividends today and we are still in QE fantasy land.
The daily chart has been red for quite a while.
Cause I paid $8/sh for the stock. There are few bad stocks, just bad prices. fdo stock cheap here, buy for the spiral up with new management ideas.
They just increased the dividend 19.2%
That's over 26 years without a break of INCREASING dividends!
Most have been double-digit % increases.
FDO is in the rare stock fraternity of Dividend Champions (25 yrs. or more of increasing divs).
Buy it, let divs reinvest and snowball, then let the divs help fund your retirement, while your kids can keep the stock.
thank me later...
FDO has some good locations in the hood as well and particularly in areas where undoc aliens are living. They ride their stolen bikes to FDO.
since Obama wants to flood the US with undoc people, DGO will benefit. Partic when they gets on the welfare.
DLTR is a much better and safer bet, trust me. I dedicated two full days to study the data and phone survey shops across the country. After all positive findings such as increased foot traffic, three cashier lanes, etc, I was surprised to find out (yesterday) that Chuck Akre increased his DLTR position by a whopping 20% at an average $54 a share. DLTR is screaming BUY. FDO is also OK, but DLTR will outperform FDO+DG by an order of magnitude. Mark your calendar.
From an article at SeekingAlpha:
"Studies like this one are showing the dollar stores are actually undercutting Wal-Mart's prices, as well - another reason people could defect from Wal-Mart altogether:
At Family Dollar, Grom and his shopping team found the basket of items fell 3.4% in price compared to three months earlier, to $145.59. Dollar General cut prices 2.2%, Wal-Mart by 0.7%. The dollar stores cut food and beverage and household products the most; Walmart was relatively cheaper for paper products and other "consumables."
Both Family Dollar and Dollar General are now, on average, cheaper than Walmart -- a reversal from May 2013, when "Walmart was the clear pricing leader," with savings of nearly a nickel per dollar, Grom reports. By January, Family Dollar shoppers were saving more than a nickel for every $2 spent at Walmart, and Dollar General was slightly cheaper than the big-store chain.* In short: "Walmart has conceded the 'price leader' crown to Family Dollar ".*
Better to just buy some walmart stock than wish it a death stroke. I own both.
Walmart has become slug central-
Family Dollar is the new corner/country store....
I have shopped at the new Family Dollar on US 2 in Naubinway while at the cabin in the U.P. Forget everything you thought you knew about Family Dollar, they have just reached perfection for this economy and the future. A must see and I spent over $450 in an orgy of shopping glee while in a wonderland of perfect shopping environment. The gold star of a retail store, all others are humbled. Die WalMart dinosaur, die !!!
It has been that way for 40 years. You still can make money with fdo if you wait for big drops. The stores are pretty sloppy, like a small kmart.
