Exactly. while eating in one of the restaurants I over heard a manager telling another guest that they were told not to pay bills or fix things and to cancel carpet cleaning and window cleaning to make it look like they made more money than they did. Stockholders beware and potential investors RUN
Still waiting -- it's been, what, 6 or 7 years that he has been promising explosive growth. He talks the talk but has never delivered.
Sentiment: Strong Sell
Been long time patron of Bob Evans (over 30 years) and watched this company for years. Quality of food is still good, though quantity and portions have been reduced, prices increased, and selection reduced from what they and their menues used to always have....
I am perplexed today because generally, you only see retired former middle class or current working poor middle class patrons, and very, very few younger adult aged patrons going there. I like the re-dos they have done in restaurants, but I am a people watcher too, and I do not see younger adults going to them- seems younger are driven by immediate results or quick satisfaction sources like the i-phones they live from, whereas patrons of BOBE are of the baby boomer and previous generations who enjoy taking time to dine without a lot of noise and distraction.
But one can also apply thsi scenarion right now to the USA and its future and that is where my concerns come from; because nothing is being done today in America to ensure it will survive and be in the future what it once used to be overall... People need to look at larger picture going on...
I have grown weary of Cracker Barrel over the years. They are not as good (food quality & portions) as they once were; especially before they went public. I remember back around late 80's I guess it was, tried to contact them about investing into one of their restaurants for where I lived in PA then. Received letter back from them saying they were private held and I could not invest in them, and they felt that area of PA was not good place for them anyway....
I received nice letter from corp then, and a packet of tomoato seeds in an old time envelope. A few years later, they went public, and built restaurant in my area of PA after all...
Yep. I got out of this stock a few years ago when they had 3 CFO's in the same year. The accounting has since become too fancy for a simple guy like me. The SEC filings used to be easy to read (Sales - Costs = Profit). Nowadays, it's too hard to keep track of all of the fancy write-downs and selling of assets that make people believe they are making more money than they probably are.
Florida-only numbers with same-store sales growing 4.4% for the 47 restaurants in the Sunshine State.
We're talking explosive growth in Florida!! Good job!! How many units are on the board for the sunshine Stare???
Guidance is not much better. Time to move somewhere else, looking at INSY, they are have a 3 for 2 stock split to owners of March 17th. GLTA, I'm going to have to move on.
Driving the stock price up based upon takeover or breakup valuations??? Any of the run up due to growth?? I am tired of the increased dividend story since it is due to the massive use of capital to buy back shares thus the increase in dividend. I would like to see a stock split based on a growth story if one can be successfully implemented resulting in explosive growth creating desire from the street for more shares due to institutional and retail customer demand. There hasn't been a split since 1991 not even a stinking 10% dividend. I guess you have to be a trader on this stock today especially since there are many better dividend opportunities out there.
So far the superior leadership team for the past 6 years has underperformed. Able to drive stock price up but not drive top-line growth or the bottom-line.
Sentiment: Strong Sell
Cracker Barrel Posts Profit, Despite Dip in Fiscal Second-Quarter Revenues
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store reported a slight drop in second-quarter fiscal 2014 revenues, citing severe winter weather as the culprit, but the company was still able to post a profit of $37.1 million, a 5.4 percent gain over a year ago.
The second quarter of fiscal 2014 ended January 31, 2014.
I expect the superior leadership team that has been around for over 6 years at Bob Evans should be more than capable of outperforming the management team at Cracker Barrel, like the Bob Evans management teams of old did on a regular basis. After all, Cracker Barrel is not nearly as forward thinking as the good old boys and girls at BOBE.
I WISH the price would go above 80! I'm was waiting for the stochastic to go above 80 (it did) so I could place a trailing stop-loss (I did).
Calling it a day shortly. I'll watch the Stochastic and set a trailing stop-loss once we cross into the 80's. Then step back and see what happens!
You hit the nail on the head with that one. As kids, didn't we all learn not to fix something that wasn't broken? I have been a long time customer/investor and I am just blown away by the ignorance here. I also travel a lot and eat at different locations around the country and it is truly horrible company wide. I remember when they took bussers away and now you wait for ever to get a table even tho the place isn't busy, it's just full of dirty tables. Next was the coffee, why change that at a breakfast place? What they replaced it with was horrible. The list goes on and on, but what really gets me now is with there refresh they add this fake looking bakery, it sits behind a plastic case with no backing to it leaving open to air exposure. There were all kids of flies going in and out of this thing and stuck to a few of the glazed donuts. It looked very appetizing (NOT!). Seems as if they did not think any of this threw. Seems as if they are aimlessly reaching for ideas. If they were smart they would have expanded there retail. Once again, another reason why Cracker Barrel does so well. One other huge trun off which made me stop eating there after 30 year was the act that every time I went there over the last 6 months is that they beg you from the time you walk in to the time you leave to buy something. I HATE that!! Are they selling used cars or food? Cause food sells itself. They are that hard up that they make there employees do that? It's no longer Bob Evans to me. Steven Davis needs to be fired for destroying what was once a company that no one could touch when it came to speed of service, customer service and quality of food.
