That, in itself, adds around 9% to NLY's book value, not including excess profits generated and not distributed as they use up their loss carry forward from last year. Their BV will likely be between $13 and $14 per share by year end - closer to $14. The current share price is ridiculously discounted to BV. But, they need to raise the distribution to accentuate the progress on BV and confidence going forward.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
Am I delusional? I bought NLY & I'm happy collecting the dividend. Although I'm down on the shares; when factoring in the dividend, I'm up. I think everyone needs to realize that Annaly makes money in all types of interest rate environments. Just look at their dividend payout over the years... from 1998 to 2013... 1.21, 1.38, 1.15, 1.75, 2.67, 1.95, 1.98, 1.04, .57, 1.04, 2.08, 2.54, 2.65, 2.44, 2.05, 1.05... dividend now running about $1.20/yr. Except for 2006, where NLY only paid a .57 dividend, the amount has always been over $1/share; and has surpassed $2/share in several years. If someone could provide a scenario where NLY will be permanently harmed by rising rates; vs. just being able to roll over maturities at higher rates; and conducting business as usual, I'd like to hear it.
Another "tough" day of collecting another great dividend! I like coming to this message board and reading all the nay-sayers on NLY...as I sit back and collect dividend after dividend!
The purchase of shopping centers is a smart move. Annaly is all about arbitrage. Per NLY's 3Q14 results thru 9/30/14... "the average yield on interest earning assets was 2.99% and the average cost of interest bearing liabilities, including the net interest payments on interest rate swaps, was 1.64%, which resulted in a net interest spread of 1.35%." The more assets NLY can get under management, the more money they'll make and more dividend NLY can throw off. Hopefully, these grocery-anchored shopping centers can yield more than 2.99%... which will further boost NLY's profitability.
Cramer only pimp the stocks he owns
can't wait to see him in american greed after the fbi shut down his pump and dump operation on mad money
There is no need for nasty comments or trashing Cramer. Everyone has the right to their own opinions and Cramer's opinions have always been good (both positive and negative).
And by the way, what did he say that should get people so irate? NLY is too risky for his taste? It is too risky for my taste too. This kind of investments are not for fainthearted. I held NLY for years and I am down 35% but I keep collecting and reinvesting my dividends and one day, probably years from now, the stock price will recover and I will get my modest 10-15% a year profit.
Lucky_Lenny: You are absolutely correct. At this point the value of my shares is slightly below what I paid for them. BUT... if the price per share were to go down to ZERO, I still have received much more in dividends than I ever paid for the stock in the first place. (Long time NLY investor.)
Sentiment: Strong Buy
with the 10yr treasury yield below yesterday's number NLY should be up not down. However, because of the market sell off NLY sellers are there. NLY is all about the treasury yield and that is where traders are making a mistake..., they are following the wrong measure. They should be following the bond yield not the market. It is like when traders sell off retail when oil drops when they know lower oil means more money in retail customers pockets to spend due to lower gas prices. Goofy, NLY should be up today not down.
Only thing crashing is the DOW ... flight to safety benefits REITs as does the broken thesis that rates were going UP next year.
For over two years the FED has signaled an end to QE, and an eventual rising of interest rates. The FED has also indicated that it did not want to be abrupt in action, rather gradual action, so as not to upset the market. Yet every time the FED meets, the market for NLY, MFA, and AGNC behaves like it is the first time the market even knew the FED was meeting, and NLY, MFA, and AGNC share price declines........My guess is that some shareholders do not believe in the value of these stocks, sell, and take a loss......If anything, the fundamentals are better now than a year ago....
noticed significant volume in jan 2016 leap calls today with price up almost 17%. almost 1000 contracts. that is 100000 shares. not shabby.
IGNORE rekreik70. He comes here after every earnings to make negative posts. He will be here posting for at least a week, maybe just a little more.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
I own NLY ever since it went public and have added and added. Obviously I sold at times but always kept adding. With the forthcoming dividend I have collected $26,725 per share, which I consider pretty decent.
SPAMMER alert. IGNORE above ID. He makes negative posts after every earnings report, and he will be here for about a week doing it.
