it's due to an agreement between msft and the hardware vendors. they make the o.s. slow down and eventually refuse to start so that customers will buy new computers and throw away devices that are perfectly ok but just have a bad o.s.
this is to make up for all the years they forced computer makers to pay them for a copy of the o.s. whether it was installed on the hardware they sold or not. and it didn't even have to involve the sale of a whole computer, a subsystem was enough to "qualify" for at least a partial license cost.
is this one of the 'services' they hold the contract on:
"Passport Database Outage: 'We Regret The Inconvenience'"
"US State Department database used to process passports and visas still hasn't recovered from a crash last week -- leaving tens of thousands of people stranded overseas."
"As first reported last week, the Consolidated Consular Database (CCD) used by staff around the world to process applications for travel to the US has been experiencing severe performance problems, including outages, since Saturday, July 19. The performance of the system is apparently still impaired, making it difficult for consular staff to whittle down the backlog."
or did that contract go to google? (-;
facts only: i don't want your opinion until i am ready to plant something that needs the soil enriched. X-D
OTOH, you could take a truckload of MS mobile devices and build yourself a new "yacht"!
Sentiment: Strong Sell
not if your goal is to lose money and alienate customers.
at the same time!!! (-;
don't forget: it's pretty much worthless without the addition of a[n extra cost add-on] keyboard.
bcuz it's not a real tablet. (-;
also with no cell radio you will need to plug it into a wired network or be close enough to a wifi network to use it with the cloud, web sites, file servers, e-mail, etc.
with a cell radio you will be paying for the data it uses when you don't have a cable or a hotspot close by. (-;
i just updated nok-nok's post about this great new development. may be he will delete it now. (-;
Zuneface 3 is another M$ FAIL.

In a growing market, windoze and blackberry combined shrink to under 5% combined. A total FAIL.

There are numerous independent sources that have verified this.
Neowin now reports that Internet Explorer 11, as contained within the leaked build, identifies itself to host websites as "Mozilla... like Gecko." Confusing, right? Perhaps, but it's not really as underhand as it sounds, as you can see from the full line of code in the picture above.
The program still identifies itself (in brackets) as IE 11, but it forgoes Microsoft's older identifier ("MSIE") and simply describes itself as being a browser that renders HTML in a similar way to Firefox's Gecko layout engine. Neowin speculates that the reason for this could be to start afresh: by confusing host websites with a new identifier, IE 11 might avoid having legacy CSS code thrown at it, dating back to the bad old days when web designers had to give Internet Explorer special treatment. It's also been suggested that this could cause problems for business apps that genuinely rely on legacy CSS code -- although it's worth remembering that we're not looking at a final release here, and none of us (ahem) are even meant to be using it.
So what happens when Windows phone 8.1 runs in desktop mode rather than mobile. That causes even more confusion.
The dumb psycho that is schizophrenic and sits all day with 4 devices open on a message board (1 Looney with multiple ID's talking to himself) is the only one that ever post or believes stat counters. You have to remember he is dumb enough to play his psycho games on a financial message board. Might make a difference when you are dreaming up characters to look like multiple people on a financial board. Just sayin' Reasonable people do not believe or psycho herecorns. Just my opinion.
I examined a Surface Pro 3 recently and it is impressive. Most impressive is the new 12" screen instead of a 10" screen, the lighter weight and this touchpad is actually smooth and actually works. My one issue with the product is that it is awkward to use on a lap because the support for the display is behind the tablet and not built-in to the keyboard. In this respect I much prefer the new way the 2-1 hybrids are made where the keyboard provides support for the display. These are much better to travel with particularly if one wants to use the desktop mode of Windows.
I haven't seen anything like this yet for Surface Pro 3 but it sure would be an improvement.
More evidence of Microsoft leaving Windows behind. The old policy of allowing only crippled versions on someone else's platform appears to have gone by the board.
that's not my stomach, it's your head!!!!
(see what you did there?!?!?)
so, a sort of a wally-bot that only scrapes other people's posts and then reposts them in a different thread without modifications.
it may not be more stupid, but at least it's different stupid. (-;
or as fathed walleye says: msft is killing the ibirds and droid birds!!!
i think that the market share is so low because they [DUH!] aren't selling many new phones. especially compared to how many phones are being sold with other o.s.es and/or from other vendors as those numbers keep going up ; smartphones are getting more popular. (well, some are ... do;)
however their installed base is still about as large as msft's phone o.s and may still be slightly larger. last time i looked it was bbos 52 mio., msft 50.
so, as i mentioned in another post, at least bbos users hang onto their phones and keep using them. with msft o.s. phones users buy one, try it for a while and then buy another one, thinking it will be better, or switch platforms. so they are still neck and neck with r.i.m.m./blackberry even though bbos is selling only 1/3rd or less units. (-;
So what if they captured 85% of shipments. Android is cheap & slapped on lots of phones.
Phone owners don't really seem to use these Android phones to surf the web or anything like that. The atrociously small web usage figures of Android confirm this.
Besides, Android has precious little to do with Linux, so the Linux fecktards need not jump up & down even if Android were to be genuinely successful, which it's not.
As they say in India, Android is ridiculous. *snicker*
