flyer, ...If you have not already done, so get an energy audit, cost is $99. you get energy efficient lighting and weather stripping. They usually recommend adding attic insulation, 50% of the cost is rebated and you can deduct on your taxes. The attic insulation will save about one tank of oil annually. We burned 700 gallons of home heating oil last year. I wont do any forensic accounting on your numbers.......Kid

kid, no Cheney mansions for us. Details: We drive about 20,000 miles per year averaging about 20 mpg on both cares. That's ~ 1000 gal of gas. We also have oil heat and our nice ~ 2000 sq ft house uses about 1000 gal of fuel oil annually. So, oil and gas combined amounts to ~ 2000 gallons. I had oil delivered about a week ago at $1.85 per gal....a year before the deliveries were between $3.50 and $4.00....if I use $3.85 as a reasonable figure for comparison we're saving ~ $2000 on fuel oil alone. I bought gas this morning for $2.11 per gallon....a year ago it was about $3,25-$3.50 per gallon...more than $1.00 above this morning's price....that;s another $1000+. So, our total expenditure for gas and oil is less this year by somewhere in the $3000-$3500 range.....and prices are still declining. While I paid $2.11 for gas this morning, at another station on the way home I saw a price of $1.68 for regular, cash. No Cheney mansion and no excessive use of either gas or oil......but, I know it's costing me over $3000 less this year than last. For the average user that money is available for spending; it's not being spent.

On the other hand, if you are listening to the questions, UTX has moved over 2k jobs to Mexico which should continue to bolster its bottom line. Yes, the stock price will fall with the bear and you'll get killed if you bought at the top; but if you buy in the coming months, you'll make money a year after this election cycle. Just know, this bear will get worse this year - there's too much street sentiment in that direction. HOwever, this is not the Alex Jones/Clyde Lewis Mad Max scenario - just another Templeton moment for those with dry powder and a good eye for bargains.

I will start nibbling in the 70's and if all heck happens, this goes to the 40's (a total bargain).

When I make a bad investment no one bails me out and I see no reason to use my tax dollar to bail out the financial institutions. These bankers are part of the top 1% so we can't let them go under. How can you think the bail out of the banks helped the banking system. It has been over seven years and they still won't pay me a decent rate of interest. Shouldn't we get back to normal someday with the banks? You haven't seen the end to this banking problem. You say entitlements like it is a bad word. All the years I worked I paid into social security and medicare and it is not my fault if the government did not invest my money wisely. Hopefully me and Mr. Buffet will continue to receive our benefits that we paid into for years. Medicare is going to bankrupt our country and it is so stupid. Our system has been set up to make us sick. We dump fluoride in the water, put mercury in our mouths, inject poisonous vaccines in our bodies, and let Monsanto poison our food with their GMOs. Now that we have made everyone sick we can sell them the good drugs to make them feel better. Our country is full of people who believe the government agencies are there to protect us but it is a lie. It is all about the money with these jokers. You go to UTUBE and watch "Cancer-Forbidden Cures" and you should understand our system. If you watch this video and still don't understand what is going on in our country you must be living in KID's world. Just go on believing we will all live happily ever after in the land of KID.

The UTC board has, until now, been a rare oasis of non-political discussion of the company and the issues that UTC faces. We get an occasional side-track into Biker-Kid bickering, but even those are rate. IF you want to be political, I'd ask that you go to some other board. GE is a hotbed of politics, you'd fit in there and not even be noticed that you were talking about some other company. PLEASE!

Biker, the average family has reaped a windfall of thousands of dollars because of the drop in oil prices. My own family figure is about $3500. That's like a big raise or a big tax cut. BUT, the money is not being spent. Instead debt is being paid off and savings increased. If the oil savings ever starts to be spent you'll see the effect on the economy. Re your constant picking on banks and the "bailout". Every penny has been repaid and then some...the Govt made a very nice profit on the "bailout". You think that's worse than if the banks had failed pulling us all down with them. C'mon, man....think. One last thing: About half of all Govt spending goes to entitlements....that's to average people, not to fat cats. And the taxes that provide that money comes almost entirely from the top half of the population....indeed, most of it from the top 1%. Surely you know that.

W2B,......There you go again, like Marco Rubio, repeating and repeating the same talking points. I watched the Super Bowl at my son's place. He had a bunch of his Hungarian friends over, all from Hungary. When the national anthem was sung, they all stood up and paid respect. I found that they all love the USA and are happy to make a good living here through their hard work. They said 2-3 million young people have left Hungary in search of a better life. So, your revolution suggestion lacks merit. How many people do you know who have left the US in search of a better future in other nations? Your gyroscopes still need work.......Kid

  • When these central banker speak we do get a bounce but don't be fooled. This is a bear and we will go lower. Their ability to effect the market may be coming to an end. The real problem is the top 1% have most of the money. When the fed gives money to the banks (top 1%) that does nothing to increase consumption. KID will tell you that giving all the money to successful people like Shkreli is a good thing. Back in the days when the market was taking down AIG Kid had money at risk. Kid was very supportive of the socialistic policies of bailing out AIG. KID is only a capitalist when it is to his benefit. True capitalism allows the financials institutions to go under and start over with new banks. These boyz have friends in Congress which will not let them go under. Why didn't these boys go to jail? Think about this when you vote. If we keep putting the same old politicians in office nothing is going to change. In the past when the top 1%get all the wealth we would see a revolution. Hope we never see that. Might want to read Dr. Zhivago to see what happens when the top 1% get all the money.

All good points. Hopefully P&W will soon get these teething pains out of the way. Something that concerns me is this: It's been so very long since Pratt has had a sharp ramp up with a new engine...with any engine!....that no one involved at any level has the experience. Institutional memory is a valuable thing that most often is lost. Pratt, while an old company, is very much on a steep learning curve re the GTF. I hope Leduc is the guy to run the show. 2016 will be one helluva year for Pratt.

Hillary will play any card, She addressed a group of POC's, persons of color, and said, paraphrasing, "We know what it's like to be on a plantation". She wouldn't know a plantation from a Goldman Sachs check or Bill's privates...Kid

Rather galling since the A321neo is the aircraft on which the GTF is strongest and the LEAP is weakest. PW should be leading the way on the A321--they have a 75% market share on that model and it is easy to see why. Rumors are that the GTF is outperforming LEAP by more than 4% which, when translated into range, is not something that CFM can simply buy their way out of. Yes, I know that which engine flies first is just PR and doesn't really mean anything--the market will eventually sort out truth from fiction--but, really, PW couldn't come up with two engines on time so they could fly first as planned? Troubling--and makes me wonder just how bad the production problems really are. Hayes said that UTC is planning on PW producing 200 GTF's in 2016--that's roughly $2B in top-line revenue, so there is a lot at stake.
