    Terribly mismanaged corporation.

    by bigstevea Jul 24, 2015 4:56 PM

Too early to say if Hayes is mismanaging the company--he's only been on the job 8 months. He certainly mismanaged the quarter, I'll give you that. Whether selling SA was a good move or not has yet to be determined--it depends on what he buys to replace it and how much he pays. If he botches this next decision, then I'll agree with you...and you won't have to wait for Hayes to retire for the next buying opportunity--he'll be gone.

Flyer you hit the nail on the head. UTC executive are making millions on this stock. Look what insiders have made. Even low level execs like Beth are multi-millionaire's. Take advantage of what the insiders are doing and get back in around 90 or lower if this accelerate decline continues.

    Sentiment: Strong Sell

  • With all the negative external forces and nothing positive coming from within this terribly mismanaged corporation, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 5-10% drop by next Friday. Next buying opportunity will be the day Hayes retires.

LMT should knock about 1.5 billion off the purchase price because the damage this will do to future contracts. Hopefully the new management won't be crooks.

    Stock Buy-Back

    by uacflyer Jul 24, 2015 11:05 AM

I can think of one good reason UTC would wait to buyback shares--they think they will go lower.
At this point, most of the damage to UTX has been done...it is to the advantage of company executives to let the stock continue to drift down by taking no action so their 2016 stock options will be priced lower. Then they can execute the buyback to bring the stock up next year. Not that they would ever do such a thing, of course...

Big Steve is looking brilliant right about now with his 90/share prediction. I am wondering if he is one of UTC's directors on the board?

Nice that they are buying back shares because their earnings will be less without SA. There is no reason to own this stock. Hayes told you that the problem was the dollar strength and weakness in China. If you believe that the dollar will remain strong and weakness will continue in China you do not want to own the stock. People have made money in the past buying when the stock went down and then riding it back up. Some times stocks go down and never come back. Look at GE. Before the big crash GE had a high of $60. Now after the recovery it is $26. Probably never see $60 again. Fed will meet next week and we could get a bounce. Janet is pretty good at saying what the market likes. You may get a chance to sell your UTX but buying more is a loser. The only thing holding our market up now is zero interest rates. Once the fed starts raising we will see the correction which is over due. I wouldn't want to be in the market then. I believe Janet understands this and will not raise rates but you never know. Even if she doesn't raise rates they will continue to pump more Euros into the market. The dollar will continue to get stronger. When I look at China it is a disaster waiting to happen. They have built cities over there and no one is living in them. It is crazy.

While you would rather not be fined $148 million......that figure is lunch money for UTC which will "net" over $6 billion from the SA sale.

Justice Department Investigating Allegations Sikorsky Units Overbilled Navy
Parent United Technologies says government is seeking up to $148 million in damages and fines
    By Ted Mann
    Updated July 24, 2015 10:47 a.m. ET

The Justice Department is seeking up to $148 million in damages and fines from United Technologies Corp. over allegations that subsidiaries of its helicopter business overbilled the U.S. Navy for spare parts.

  • The UTC Board has authorized a buy-back of 75 million shares, as I recall...and Hayes said that the proceeds from the SA sale would be used for that purpose...but not until next year. At year-end UTC had over $5 billion in cash and already has purchased $3 billion in stock. Since a larger buy-back is planned, it seems to me that there will likely be no better time than right now. So why wait? UTC shares are off ~ 25% from their high of just a few months ago. The stock price is being hammered by the steady stream of lousy news. This is all short-term stuff. At ~ $100 the PE based on 2015 earnings is about 15...a good buy.

I am being censored by Yahoo but Sikorsky is being investigated for criminal charges regarding illegal overcharging the Navy.

No good news for UTC, just a lot of wishing and hoping that the stock will go up. Management team doesn't have what it takes to pull this corporation out of the cellar. We will see 52 week low very shortly.

UTX is one of the worst managed companies

Maybe it is time for Kangas to go join Louie on the yacht? If he is too busy to be responsible as Chairman at UTC, time to relieve him of a few of his many duties!

Are people trying to throw Hayes overboard for their own benefit? Could it be reminiscent of what happened to our previous CEO?

We are being too harsh on Chairman Ed. One man can only do so much. Let's remember he is also Chairman of Tenet Healthcare, a Fortune 250 company, that requires much time and focus. This combined with membership on four other boards is far too much for one person to handle simultaneously. We just need to patiently wait for attention and guidance - I'm sure it will be coming soon.

You are suffering because UTX business is mostly oversea and we have the strong dollar. No one can change that. That is their business model. If you own UTX stock you should be very scared. The dollar is going to get stronger and China is a bubble waiting to bust. How long they can hold up their market up is anybodies guess but when they go our market will go with it. Doesn't matter who runs the company. There is nothing they can do. What you can do is get in the fix income fund and you will not suffer the downturn that is coming. Remember when the stock went to $40. You think that can't happen again?

    Smaller military = bigger problems

    by airbornetrppervet Jul 22, 2015 10:02 PM

We do not need more military equipment. The stupid use of our military is the reason Iraq and Libya are a mess and now we have Isis. We have made a mess of the world with the stupid decisions made by our politicians. We can no longer afford to make war on the rest of the world. We need to spend the money here.
