If you look back in the past you'll see this same comment about capital gain/dividend distributions this time of year;
You can also call the company and they'll tell you!!
If you do let me know what you find out; Have a good weekend;
Sentiment: Hold
Thanks for the reply, I feel alot better now.
Usually this time of year they pay a dividend-this will come to you in either cash or reinvested additional shares and then multiply the added total and it'll come out similar. It will show in your 1099. Most Companies and mutual funds are paying dividends now to give you the 15% tax rate in case they change the rates due to Obama increased taxes. Just be patient;
Sentiment: Hold
Yesterday most stocks and mutual funds were up, but BARAX was down 6.68%, what is the reason ? We need the management firm accountability !
Can't just let it go, this is the second time in a very short time !
Sentiment: Strong Sell
dividends for baron are typically done in late dec
Any way to tell if a div or cap gain is forthcoming for BARAX?
i found out from baron mgt that the fund had to sell investments due to redemption demands from "nervous" investors. This is what caused the large cap gains distribution.
Odd. Thanks for the explanation.
there was a 7.67 capital gain distribution so you will have more shares or receive a check...this is a little unusual considering all the nice newsletters and no mention that this was coming
There was a huge 15% drop in price that day while the rest of the market was on a rise. Does anyone know what happened there?
What is S&W...Smith and Wesson?
Looks like this message board disappeared with the bull market a long time ago..Great bull fund, not so good in down
turns..The hole approach of cashing in on boomers retireing is about finished.Ok, whats the next trend?..
wow you're grown up
You may remember, back in the good old day's of the booming
stock market, that Barron was all hyped up about retires
and ski resorts and was heavy into prediction of future
trends..Oh well, guessed wrong...I bought into it to..I
think the first and formost objective of most investers is
to find a fund thats primary goal is capital preservation.Stick with them as long as that objective is in play...In a bad market you will still loose money, but not
as bad or as deep as funds like barron( looking for trends)
I hope they do well again. Just placed my nestegg with them. Well what is left of it. If that fails I guess I will retire with my S&W.
unfortunately we all lost 40% last year...in whatever fund you invested in. That is part of investing in the stock market...some years down 40 and other years up 30 but on average the returns are better than risk free investments. I have other money in "value funds" that invested in aig, fannie and freddie and other bank stocks that are lost forever...at least baron invests in real companies that he understands. I have invested with baron since the 1980's and he has done very well. I am confident this will come back.
I trusted Baron with my family money and am ruined. I just got my statement and cannot believe it. I cannot send my kids to college now and retirement is beyond a dream. I worked so hard for my money and to lose this much is just crushing. How could a group of so-called value managers that buy "businesses" lose their shirt like this?
I know Ron and he earned it the old fashioned way, he picked good stocks that gave his clients a great return over the past 30+ years.
Who are you, a 60 second trader who will scalp a momentum stock for 1/8? No doubt you are.
There are no free lunches, nor should there be. People who want and need the information to invest wisely, need to pay for it.
If you read the newsletters that come out quarterly you can tell he is very involved in all the funds as they all have similar focus and ideas. He is just doing the smart leadership thing and surrounding himself with good smart people. This gives him more time to explore new companies, trends and new Baron funds. I am sure he is involved in all new ideas.
I have invested with Baron since the late 80's and still kick myself for moving some $ out of Baron in early 2000 when the returns were lower than the overall market.
Years ago I began socking our kids birthday money and later bar mitzvah $ into barax and have done very well.
Ron Baron is not longer managing BARAX. I've been holding this since 1997. Does this bode well or ill? Intelligent opinions appreciated.
