Toyota plans to add a rooftop solar panel to its Prius plug-in hybrid to make the car even greener.Solar power would recharge the batteries of the plug-in hybrid, theoretically giving it more driving range and improving its overall efficiency. Unfortunately, the solar panels will only be offered in Japan and Europe for now because they are laid on reinforced glass sheeting that won’t pass stringent rollover tests in the U.S., according to Automotive News. However, Toyota wants to offer the solar-panel Prius in the U.S. and is working on a solution. “We would like to introduce this, at least in the lifetime of the current model,” Koji Toyoshima, chief engineer of the Prius plug-in and regular
General Motors announced last month that it would provide compensation to owners of their models of SUVs after admitting it had incorrectly calculated the fuel economy on the vehicles. But that apparently isn't enough for some GM owners who have filed a potential class action against the carmaker.
The lawsuit [PDF], filed in a federal court in San Diego, accuses GM of deceptively marketing, and advertising some Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, or Buick Enclave vehicles by overstating the gas mileage since at least 2009.
A California woman, who owns a 2016 Buick Enclave, alleges that she was enticed to purchase the vehicle through GM's advertisements that included supposedly exaggerated gas mileage.

Toyota Motor Corp said Friday it had told its U.S. dealers to disclose, at the time of sale, the identity of vehicles with defective Takata air bag inflators that will be subject to recalls by 2018.
After criticism from members of Congress, the automaker made public the list of vehicles with inflators subject to future recalls. They include the 2016 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX460 still in production. TOKYO — A U.S. serviceman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of raping a Japanese woman on the island of Okinawa, where delicate negotiations are underway to relocate a controversial U.S. military base.
Navy sailor Justin Castellanos, 24, is accused of taking the woman to his hotel room in the Okinawa capital of Naha and raping her after finding her asleep in the corridor, Kyodo News service said, quoting police. The woman, in her 40s, was visiting from the island of Kyushu in southern Japan, according to the report.
Castellanos denied the accusation, Kyodo said.
The U.S. military in Okinawa did not immediately respond to a request for more information Sunday.
Rapes and other crimes by U.S. servicemen on Okinawa have generated widespread protests against the U.S. military presence there. Some 25,000 U.S. troops, mostly Marines, are based on Okinawa. It is the largest concentration of U.S. forces in Japan.
