Yes quite a turn around. I have two LT holdings currently in play: TICC and EMC. TICC is a HY BDC that I have slowly averaging down and presently in the red. EMC as you know is being circled by activist and Dell.
Wow BTE was certainly slammed. Down 85% YTD. You had a good buy under $4. Hooked it just right. Reminds me when STO was below $5. Oils will eventually comeback, overtime. Between CVX, OKE, OKS, ENBL, KMI, SDRL, SDLP & RD-B (yes I have SDRL) and I declare I am done. Might have to pull the average down trigger on OKS. I recall years past, the talking heads were shouting Pengrowth. Seems to be hit hard too. When will the consolidation begin? And who will acquire who. Next week we will find out what KMI will do w/dividend.
best of luck and may the Pack beat the spread !
Hola! Your Jets are flying high, with one of the best Ds in the NFL They should get by Washington this weekend and improve to 4 and !... GB has the Rams at home...the Ram's front four may give them trouble, although Las Vegas favors the green and gold!
Wow, what a difference a few days can make in the market...I'm up nearly 10% since the end of Sept...and look at KMI. When I returned from Tampa and sweating my cajones-off, it was what, $25 and now it's $32? Goes to show you can't time the market. How far this rally takes us is anyone guess. Hey, even EDE is up!
It looked like there might be a bottom in oil and a possible price increase. I was looking at an old holding that I use to have, BTE. It's a Canadian oil company. It use t be one of the CanRoys, don't know if you remember them. I held them, BTE, PWE and ERF for the large income they provided. Then the October Massacre happened(the government pulled the rug out from under and gave them a few years to convert to corporations)...well, I said goodbye, but always liked BTE. Anyway to make a long story even longer, I put in a bid for shares this Monday at $3.50...I didn't get filled, but was able to pick some up at $3.90. They eliminated their dividend, but it seemed a prudent move.Time will tell how this turns out.
Have a good day and night and good luck with your investing! Bob
Go Pack Go ! Many cheeseheads in the stands at the new Santa Clara stadium. Could hear the chant loud and clear from the TV broadcast. Kap must be in a miserable place right now. They need to clean house from Harbaugh's regime. Congrats on the Empire purchase. It should do ok. I managed to stand pat, and look at this rally! LOL. Utilities up today, GE because of advocate investor, drugs so-so. OGS hit a new high. Curious to what is up with this one. I have a small stake from the OKE spinoff. OGE increased dividend 10% so ENBL must not be doing that bad. Absorbing a nice market day, a Jets win and sunny day. Have a good one....
No need for an OT moniker. I bought 200 shares at $21.53, yielding about 4.75%. I might add more if the yield goes above 5%. This message board is a pretty sleep location.lol
I took a look at EMR and was surprised to see it was below $43 and yielding 4.37%...looks like perhaps the industrials are the next place to get whacked.
I did not know the Jet vs Miami game was in London...I think that situation has got to be rough on both teams. The Fins are listed as the home team....yeah. I think it's a toss-up. The Pack will be OK as long as No.12 stays healthy, although with Adams out and Quarless injured, the receiving corps is getting thin.
Freshly minted EDE shareholder, Bob
I watched the GB game last night. Hopefully, Rodgers remains healthy this year. The "put em away" sound bite has been the theme of late amongst the talking heads. Heard it on the Raiders broadcast against Cleveland too. Jets got a reality check against the Eagles. The Miami game is going to be in London! So I have my DVR setup.
I have a small position (100) in OGE. Raised dividend .10 to $1.10. They put their gas assets into the pot with CNP to create ENBL. 2nd year double digit increase.
I was tempted to do some average down, once again yesterday. But alas did not. Pharma, BDCs and oil were slammed. Which sector is next? LOL
Never been to Tampa.
WEC looks strong of late. I kept my shares from the TEG purchase. Yes, I might get some more EDE to average down. If it hits 5%. COKE rallied this week as KO is off loading bottlers. I am not sure if the internationals bottlers will be next. However, in the short run and the dollar strength, it could be a possible move.
I have Reckitt-Bensker (RB) and Smith & Nephew (SNN) both have been rumored to be acquired. PFE for RB and JNJ for SNN.
Sane here ! All the best.
Hola, nyjets! Well, I have returned from the humid hell-hole known as Tampa, just blink and you start sweating.lol...the downtown is infested with mucho street people and homeless...happy to be back in the crisp cool air of Wisconsin.
You might be correct regarding your thoughts on being done with stocks for the year. I've tried to pick up some that I thought were cheap and they just got cheaper(COP, KMI, etc). What the heck happened to KMI while I was away...geez?
The Jets battle Miami this weekend...a big rivalry and hopefully, GB can get some pay-back with the 49ers. GB dominated the Chiefs Monday night, but really need to develop more of a killer instinct and not let an opponent back up off the mat! I haven't been a fan of their D-coordinator, Dom Capers for awhile...anyway, it's only a game!
If I do add any stocks, it might just be something rather sleepy and benign like EDE.
Good luck with your hibernation strategy. Keep in touch re any moves you might be making, always good to hear from a sane poster.lol
Well pull in and say hello to the good ole boys at TE for me! Yes EDE was impacted from the tornado. I think I'm done for the year w/stocks. Last purchases KMI & ENBL are sinking once more.
The new point after change could cause some heart ache once bad weather arrives in the open air stadiums.
Safe Journey Enjoy
nyjets...I needed to respond quickly, headed to Tampa manana to visit my girlfriend's son(yeah, I have a girlfriend...was married twice, proved to be a landmine for me.lol )...so, I'll be out of communicado for awhile.
I play in some football pools and It's proven to be a very difficult year picking winners. Yes, the Jets are a surprise...nice swarming D. They could go on the road and beat Miami this weekend.
I wasn't recommending CLC, although I'd certainly appreciate your thoughts. It's in the filter business, so, many repeat customers. However, this was the first time I can recall that they had negative organic growth...must say something about the world economy.
I saw that EDE reduced it's dividend in 2011(I believe) is that when the horrific tornado hit the Joplin surroundings? Actually, that seems like a prudent approach to a very bad situation. I like the area it serves and will consider making a small initial investment. Thanks for the heads-up.
Good luck with your investing(KMI, etc) Florida Bound Bob
PS Cabo can be fun, but I call it a drunk and dumb show and I'm a guy who enjoys having some brandy, lol Yeah, Mr. Haggar sold his Cabo Wabo tequila brand(he might still have a small piece), however, I didn't know he was now in the rum business...good for him!
Who would have thought that the Jets could pull one off against the Colts on the road. That was one heck of a game. Defense Defense and more take aways. It is a long season. When the jets signed Farve they were 8-0, finished I believe 8-8. Never been to Cabo. I heard it was a fun place to go. Hagar sold off the tequilla business now he hyping and pushing the new rum venture.
Hits, smackdowns and landmines are all around. If it is not the energy sector, then the utilities, if not the utilities it is the pharma group, etc. I am in a sea of red lately. The coke bottler CCLAF looks appealing because of the distribution of alcohol brands. They do have problems with ag/produce business. Plus KO retains something like 30% ownership as it does with all the bottlers. Something w/AU stocks are the dividends and how much they are FRANKED. Meaning taxed. Learned something here.
I'll check out CLC.
I'm down 11% on EDE. Bought in @$24.22. Oct 30 they raised the dividend .02. See if they do another 2% next month. Saw EXC below $29. Just an observation.
I think we might have some more down days with year end tax loss selling around the corner. Think you have bottom and then a new low pops up. The Fed/IMF are now concerned for Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia. So this is what they were taking about in the mid 80s of the global economy? LOL
All the best
Hi, nyjets, Well, my Packers finally got passed the Seattle boogie man...at least for now! A very crazy NFL season so far...Tampa goes to N.O. and beats the Saints...Redskins take the Rams to the woodshed, etc. I'm usually pretty good in my NFL suicide pool, but not this year, out after just 2 weeks! lol Good luck with the Jets on Monday Night Football.
My friends are MAJOR Red Rocker fans. I've been to The Cabo Wabo Cantina with them several times. However, I'm a liitle to old(or wise) and won't hang out in the street for tickets to his October birthday bash. Have you ever been to Cabo San Lucas? I think it's to damn hot and prefer Playa del Carmen in the Riveria Maya.
I really took a hit on one of my bigger holdings, Clarcor(CLC), which I've owned for years. It's usually a steady eddie type stock, but it showed lower sales and earnings and got a $10.00 per share smackdown....ouch!
I'm down on my KMI investment, but will consider adding some more. I will take a look at your suggestion list.
Good luck with your investments, Bob
PS EDE may be a ute for me to consider.
Tahoe was great, but cold at night. Hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend as well. We didn't think of bringing any extra outer wear for some reason. With that in mind the outdoor show w/Hagar and friends was not enjoyed by the wife, so we left about 1/2 way. Harrahs treated us reasonable. They probably made a small profit.
KMI has held up for awhile against peers then the drop. IF congress allows exporting of energy, they will make their decision soon, then I hope KMI will be positioned to benefit. In either case, I jumped in for more shares probably too soon ($32.03). I also averaged down on ENBL @$13.65 the other day. KMI will announce next dividend mid OCT. The quest for yield/income has it pitfalls. On this MSG Board, I shared a XOM/Kuwati JV converting a hub in TX that was originally built to import energy to exporting. NYT article about a year ago.
Are they trying to weaken the dollar? Pound has semi-rallied. $1.53 to $1.56
Utilities look strong today w/FED do nothing for now approach.ED up over a point. ED is another utility that the CEO mentioned that he would consider a deal. Not as strong of wording as TE, at the time, but favorable.
Believe it or not I am looking at AU ADRS. CCLAF, MQBKY, WBK, & TRSYY.
I moved it here less traffic.
Enjoy the weekend. All the best .......
