  • Greenpeace Founder: 'No Proof' That 'Minor' Warming Is Man-Made
    By Joe Schaeffer

A co-founder of Greenpeace told a Senate committee there is “no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth’s atmosphere over the past 100 years.”

Patrick Moore, who in 1971 helped form the famed environmental activist group, testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that “if there were such a proof, it would be written down for all to see. No actual proof, as it is understood in science, exists.”

“The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states: ‘It is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century,’” Moore said.

“'Extremely likely’ is not a scientific term but rather a judgment, as in a court of law. The IPCC defines ‘extremely likely’ as a ‘95-100 percent probability.’

"But upon further examination it is clear that these numbers are not the result of any mathematical calculation or statistical analysis. They have been ‘invented’ as a construct within the IPCC report to express ‘expert judgment,’ as determined by the IPCC contributors.”

Moore left Greenpeace in 1986 after 15 years because he said the group “took a sharp turn to the political left and began to adopt policies that I could not accept from my scientific perspective.”

He told the Senate committee that political bias has tainted climate-change “science.”

“The increase in temperature between 1910 and 1940 was virtually identical to the
increase between 1970 and 2000. Yet the IPCC does not attribute the increase from 1910 to 1940 to 'human influence.'

"They are clear in their belief that human emissions impact only the increase ‘since the mid-20th century.’ Why does the IPCC believe that a virtually identical increase in temperature after 1950 is caused mainly by ‘human influence,’ when it has no explanation for the nearly identical increase from

Super Bullish Factors for US Coal

    by cadmium_telluride Nov 5, 2013 1:31 PM

I don't think your NG figures are accurate. I'm in the coal space, and have been all the way down to the bottom, and I'm not at all proud of it. But saying coal is super bullish for the past two years is a stretch. Maybe someday there will be a recovery. Is that starting tomorrow, or will there first be M&A activity, or will JRCC go BK, or will exports keep them all going- who knows. ACI is my choice in the space but it's no doubt the most hated and can't seem to gain any ground. Bought WLT at $10.70 and it's almost doubled. Bought ANR at $6 and it's up nicely. Had some CLF and it jumped 40% as well. ACI still in the tank and probably has most upside. Wish BHP or Vale or BTU would just buy ACI for $10 and be done with it.

  • "When demand pushes coal prices higher we're gonna make breathtaking profits. There are a lot of reasons coal prices could go higher. There are a lot of reasons coal prices could go higher that polite people don't discuss, also. We're constantly cutting costs while maintaining best in industry employee safety. And finally, we're pretty smart people who are running a massive company that is so important and fundamental to the world economy that it can't be emphasized enough. But times are tough all over, and we don't control that. If things improve for any number of reasons, we'll all benefit in a serious way."

  • A super bull cycle does not start from a triple digit stock price. It always go from a ridiculously low single digit stock price and move towards triple digits. We are at the start of a super cycle.

Here are the reasons why US coal is so bullish:

    1. US shale gas companies are unable to sustain $150B per year capital expenditure to continue to drill shale wells to sustain a production of roughly 10 TCF of shale gas per year, worth $35B revenue. The collapse of the shale revolution Ponzi Scheme will cause such gas shortage that coal price will rally big.

    2. The corrupt Indonesia, owning only 0.6% of the world's coal reserve, can NOT sustain production to continue to be world's No. 1 coal exporter. They have exhausted the easy to scratch surface coal. They are sending to China such low quality coal that air pollution becomes public enemy No. 1 and there are calls to ban Indonesia coal imports.

    3. Both Indonesia and China face severe problem digging deeper to access deeper coal underground. Indonesia has exhausted surface coal. But they really can not dig underground. The island nation has sandy ground every where. You can not dig sand tunnels as the tunnel easily collapses. As for China, major coal base is located under the Loess Plateau. The soil is very soft to dig when it is shallow. But very hard to maintain the tunnel open when you reach a certain depth, because the soft soil can not hold back the huge pressure from the ground above. China's coal mines now average 600 meters deep and going 20 meters deeper every year. There is a limit how deeper they can go.

    4. China, consuming 4 billion tons of coal to produce electricity, cements and steels, generates 4.9 trillion KWH of electricity, some what higher than USA's 4 trillion KWH. But only 11% of that electricity is use by the commercial and residential sector, so that averages each Chinese enjoying less than 400 KWH of electricity per year at home and in their city. There is still HUGE room for demand growth

  • ADSU was just upgraded to a $2 price target by Everest Stock Market Research, add this one to your watch lists immediately we could see huge gains tomorrow morning. The last alert they put a price target on went up over 3000% same day!

  • Many many years ago i bought it as a play on silver, gold, and copper. Had control of 12000 shares at $2 and change at that time. Stock was boring like all the other mining stocks. Had to cash out early only to realize a year later the stock was worth around $30. Do the math. My point is that mining stocks behave like that: many many quarters of negative earnings and cash flows, followed by great cycles. At some point Coeur Mining was even issuing more stock to stay alive, diluting the shares further.

ACI you gotta buy with a cool head and endure whatever comes at you. Main thing, keep calm because thats how mining stocks behave. They dont generate much press and depend on commodity prices. Coal is not going anywhere.

  • I admit, I get dragged down into the solar thing and the greenie thing and the "I am lonely in a basement thing" and the "the stock price has been going down so I am right and you are wrong" and the ...

My promise is I will try harder to absolutely ignore these time wasting human holes who have as their only agenda ... attention.

    Everyone else?

Discuss the merits of PRB coal, the Longview port, the Leer mine, European increase in coal shipments, competing resources (natural gas chiefly) etc, etc..

The attention grabbers want to talk almost exclusively about the burning of coal. That is for the utility comment boards and the consumers of the electricity which they provide. Wrong board. It is like getting into a 'guns kill people, people don't kill people' discussion. It's ludicrous.

Solar, OMG it's 0.26% of our grid supply, discussion here is absolutely buffoonish and a sad attention getter.

I will try harder ... anyone else?

  • Just wanted to add Walter coal company has two mines that deep . No. 4 and No. 7, are two of the deepest vertical shaft coal mines in North America at nearly 2,000 feet deep. If you want something bad about China coal this is it.

And as China’s nuclear and coal sectors battle over the sites where the radioactive heavy metal lies buried, experts say the uranium is accidentally ending up in coal-fired power stations
    - creating radioactive ash that is falling on surrounding cities.

One Canadian firm that declined to be interviewed has built a plant near one coal-fired power station in Yunnan to collect the uranium from the ash…..
The deposits in Ili in Xinjiang and Erdos in Inner Mongolia were described as “world-class” and “mega-sized” in recent reports by state media.

The problem is these rich veins of uranium are buried between thick belts of coal.

Song Xuebin, former head of China National Nuclear Corporation
(CNNC)’s 821 Factory that produces uranium fuel, has filed a complaint
with the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

He alleged the coal mines were encroaching on the uranium deposits.
“These basins contained oil, gas, coal and uranium,” he wrote. “Due to
its large scale and high speed of construction, coal mining will soon
bring huge destruction to uranium resources. It will also cause the
    environment to suffer radioactive pollution.”

Professor Gu Zhongmao, of the China Institute of Atomic Energy and a
top adviser to CNNC, said that balancing the interests of the two
different energy sectors was proving a headache for the central
The environmental hazards caused by radioactive ash has been kept quiet.

Yin Lianqing, environment professor at North China Electric Power
University, said that he conducted some tests in a few cities to
monitor the radiation levels in neighbourhoods near coal-fired power
    plants, and got alarming results.

“We have found some instances of very high exposure, hundreds of times
    higher than what you
