there are only around 15,000 to 20,000 Avid systems in use by TV producers where yes, it is still the king. However, the there are over 25 MILLION users of iMovie because they got it for free. Final Cut 10 ports directly from imovie - GUI and all. But Resolve works off of ANY computer and it's free. It may take some time but the do pose an existential threat at the moment
These softwares targets different segments of users.
Final Cut Pro does not compete with AVID. It focuses on a completely different userbase.
Premiere is good but does not compete with AVID in AVIDs' strong area, episodic TV content or other similiar content that needs to be published fast. AVIDs' sharing interface which makes non linear editing a breeze and the possibility to transcode in the background makes it a powerhouse in those areas.
Not only is Apple coming out with a next generation Final Cut Pro that is back in keeping with FC7, but Adobe Premier has made fresh inroads. And then, as if that wasn't bad enough. Black Magic is now offering a pretty impressive revamped version of their RESOLVE software as a free download for stand alone users. Im not sure what apple has up their sleeves but subscription based services don't have hostages. You've gotta keep being the guy to beat. We shall see.
It's just dying. Being a user of Pro Tools I fooled myself about the new direction of this company but it's clear that their new additions are not coming anytime soon and bug fixes not being addressed. Such a shame.
It appears to have stopped. There is generally nobody on this board. I dropped by tonight because I thought after the last 2 days, there might be some activity. Guess I was pretty much wrong.
Wow I didn't see that coming, I'm glad I was waiting for earnings to buy more. Have to give it a few days to see if it stops going down.
Looks like you did okay.
Will be interesting to see what the announcement does... http://finance.yahoo.com/news/avid-relist-nasdaq-211000299.html
