Depending where you are at in life........that is a good plan as I have adhered to that the last few years as it is NOT how much the stock is worth per share but the AMOUNT of shares that you have when they pay the dividend. That is of course if the dividend stays the same and is not slashed.
You have looked at Wikipedia and found the uses for coal ash, have you? There are uses . for it, but the profit margin is not all that great. Did your father ever buy cinder blocks?
israel tells trump to dance across the stage..... and trump obeys....... israel tells trump to babble .... and trump opens his mouth and babbles , 'one liners' ...... yes... trump is a one liner comic puppet....... 'donald thunder rump' will serve israel well......... open your pockets.......
here is a point tom look at,, you own it for the dividend,, well i shorted it the day before the dividend and paid you the dividend,,BUT i made 3 points on it the next day because the stock falls every time after the hype dividend run,, so look at a different strategy with Duke,,
One pundit is suggesting one in June, and another in Nov !!
It's no question Obama wants NONE .. it'll be bad for his "legacy"
(?uck him and his "Yellen" FED Puppet rumors )
He should have taken 'Business Economics' while he was at Harvard !!
It's no question DUK is following the Ute sector movement - however they're also losing some PPS due to their "coal ash" problem .
i'm sure from DUK's Corp structure was doing some ducking & dodging on the truth about the discovery of the Dan River 'coal ash' pond(s) leakage & pollution (et al) ?
Are they having to 'pay the piper' for the ducking & dodging now(?) ... PROBABLY !!
Realizing that rising interest rates affect everyone's bottom-line as far as the need to borrow, but for those that need to borrow, they'll still do so, perhaps making some financial adjustments ?
BUT BUT BUT ...
Don't forget, Electric Ute's profits are "regulated" by law .. and ARE allowed "to make a profit", which makes these very desirable stocks during inflationary times - many idiots don't realize this !!
Where Is that coming from? Price to book is only 1.36, PE is at 20, which while not great isn't bad by comparison to equitable size utilities. It has $1.3 billion dollars of free cash flow. The only thing that may be a little high is the dividend payout ratio of 83%, which is easily covered by their current free cash flow. If it drops another $10, there's something seriously wrong.
If that is the case, why is almost every other major utility getting hit with an over 2% loss on the day. Granted it will be costly if it goes through. This is verbatim from the story "Duke Energy Corp. must clean up its coal-ash ponds in North Carolina by 2024 due to environmental and public health safety risks, state regulators said in a proposal that could be scaled back at a later date" Note it says "in a PROPOSAL! " If it does come to fruition, 8 sites would have to be cleaned up by 2019. All speculation at this point.
Interest rates have NOTHING to do with Duke's demise the last few days.
It is the FORCED CLEAN UP of coal ash ponds costing BILLIONS of dollars
Now they're saying the rate hike may occur in June. The kneejerk reaction has already began; DUKE down over $2.00. Down over $5.00 in two days.
You and I seem to be in a minority. In my opinion too many investors follow the leads of those damn analysts, they do no evaluation for stock fundamentals, just follow right over the cliff.
I agree with you. I am not paying attention to that nonsense. I added yesterday and wish I had had free cash to add again today. I do my own thing.
the corporations and government in America do not want good paying jobs here at all, they want them all over seas, the reason is they can bring wages down, and then they can control all the [people in the USA like the other countries control their people,, see you need the government because there is nothing here to support yourself,,, its all plan by design
lee: CNBC, showed a chart for the chances of the fed raising rates. For the month of June, there was a 30 to 40 percent chance for a rate hike. As far as the utility sector in general ... pps, are on the high end. There isn't much room for upside. I didn't sell, but won't add more till the pps retrace to the 74.00 range. Mike
