Morning Mike. Agree about the dividend lifestyle. I loved the discussion about the tax rate. We paid (if I'm not mistaken) a 35%+ rate this quarter. It's so irritating when other large companies can skirt that by tax haven shenanigans or off-shore profiteering. Even FDX does the double whammy of a lower tax rate plus their independent contractor model. I also think it's better in the long run to choose not to pursue low margin volume. We're much better off going after specialized products (supply chain) and working with customers who respect our service quality and options. As was mentioned in the earnings call, maybe after they leave us they decide to come back on our terms. In any event, when all the hub upgrades are done, maybe the operational cost per package comes down and we look at things a bit differently. The discussion on all things international seemed really good too.
This is what I do not understand, the Revenue number was actually 1% better then last year to 13.98 Billion so how is that a miss?....I know because some pencil pushers on Wall St who would not last one minute in a package car, dock, office, IE, Marketing, you name the Dept at UPS, sits at a desk and decides without knowing the business what the Rev and production numbers are going to be, yeah right he knows more then the Board filled with people that lived it and live it everyday. I have lived it and like you all are really happy and satisfied with my Dividends and retirement and I also trust my Partners that walk the walk.
Same here, living very well of the dividends, We are making the USPS look good I am getting 2 day service on small packages coming fro Minnesota . I am sure we are providing air lift and making more profit rather than a UPS driver delivering the package but that will show up in volume loss
Results are out and UPS had a solid quarter. Report said UPS did not renew some of their low profit business when their renewals came up. In my opinion this was a good move.
If this company chose to tighten their belts this quarter an easy beat....lower gas prices, hedge currency, weather wasn't as big a factor as last 2 years, reduction in capital spending who knows...if they are determined to attain their numbers going forward, these guys are the ones to accomplish it...god luck
I'm talking about Growing. To Grow, one must get the Lift. Old or New Aircraft. This company has let FDX kick it's collective #$%$ the last 5 years. Doubling in Revenue. Which is from Growth. UPS, not so much. Obviously.
From a profit perspective, don't you want them using old planes as long as possible? Why spend money when you don't have to?
Check out the typical Central States Pension fund oh rjb51272.. Going in the toilet and money being taken away from retirees... Your statement about MGt is ubsurd and stupid... get a life BROHTER..
This will be a worrisome quarter. Last year we missed estimates of $1.08 by $.10. Now we're again estimating $1.09 so hopefully we hit that number this time. The scary things are the dollar, the lowered GDP growth expectation to just about 1%, Q1 weather in many parts of the country including Louisville, FDX revenue miss despite their ongoing cost reduction program that e don't have in place and the potential loss of volume due to the move to DIM pricing. Personally, I think the Post Office is becoming a more formidable competitor and their "anything to can fit into particular sized boxes" marketing scheme might be working. If we miss again, there will be many questions about our management's ability. FDX meanwhile is preparing to grab TNT at a 25% discount to our ridiculous attempt and we just keep looking like we're always just behind the curve.
highly doubt it....even with the already lowered/lowered numbers, the reduced surcharge, the strong dollar which will reduce revenue quite a bit..FDX beat and missed on revenue and lowered guidance and they got slammed...with the harsh winter/especially in louisville...still have doubts they beat...even then i have to believe they will lower forecasts...i wll say i haven't seen many commercials the last few months...a way of saving money?...the driver in our subdivision is a couple of hours earlier than normal these days...loss of volume?...who knows?tread carefully...luck
I don't get a 1099, all UPS employees are just that employees who are members of a union. UPS is a great company, but management is all worried about planned time and non sense rather than running the business. They allow certain mechanics to just throw parts at cars to fix them rather than properly diagnose the problem and repair what is necessary. I tried to go into supervision, but my manager did not do my review to renew my MAPP process due to retaliation for me filing a grievance for a contract violation, HR told me he never was notified to renew it, however my attorney contacted corporate and an email trace was performed and shows he did get notified. They say that the drivers are unskilled positions, yet most of management came from driving positions, hmmmm I know alot of great management personnel in UPS but most are not qualified for their positions.
I talked with a LOSS PREVENTION person recently he said its the person who is complaining the most about any one of stealing, is the one who is doing the most stealing
UPS missed a wonderful opportunity because your name did not come up when electing people to the BOD YOU have ALL the answers on how to run a company sit down get all your last 10 years of 1099s Look how much $$$$ you have made add in SSI payment that UPS Paid on your behalf add in insurance cost I do not know how you can have such a negative attitude of a Company. You complain continually about UPS and management , you have two options QUIT or Take of you mechanic uniform , put on a tie and coat and go into supervision It will open your eyes, COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
