I actually bought this stock in this price range because of the fact that our recreational property listing on VRBO and Homeaway has been so successful and easy.
People can find it easily and it has turned a second property albatross into a profitable venture that can be held without pain until it is sold either 1 year or 20 years from now.
I don't care AT ALL that there is a silly lawsuit about bad reviews. It would be worse if Internet based companies were removing negative reviews. What a slippery slope! This is just a fact of life and it will not change.
are proven false, they must be withdrawn and a re-traction must be made apologizing to the victim,
I am told. H-away must change its policies and conform to the law.
Homeaway and proved the review was false and malicious ....they said they didn't care. We'll
see about that!!!
just plain goofyness!
How about Trip Advisor, Yelp, Google etc and every other sight on the internet that allows reviews!!
Bad or good reviews, is the life we choose when we all decided to advertise on the internet,
The handwriting's on the wall for the AWAY, Expedia deal.
Makes perfect sense for both companies to approach this the way they're doing.
Work out the commission structure with entire complexes, then drift it down to the single owners.
I hope our 4o unit complex eventually signs up.
false and malicious comments--- each home is worth million in some cases--- can Sharples afford
to pay all this out in libel claims?
properties are not included in Expedia deal..........what a rip off by Away. They let false reviews
slam owners of homes and NOW this prejudicial treatment against home owners...........
why do they hate home owners so much????
Did you get kicked of the Home Away site? I've never heard of that. Why don't you sue them instead of just bashing them? There might be a liable suit for both of you.
The point is: to publish a review that is false and can be proved so by the owner-- is libel under
the laws of most states. Homeaway should study journalism law--- it's reviews are not exempt from the
law on libel (lies in print). H-away has a duty to check out every alleged lie brought to its attention.
"to kick someone off their site for reporting this" would compound the libel damages of the victim of
the lie "against" H-away.
We have used VRBO for a few years both in the US and Europe and we have been very satisfied. We read all the reviews before we book. We can tell if someone who writes a negative review is just venting or if they are legitimate. Some people are just out to have a bad time; they don't like themselves and they don't like the people they are with. You can't please everyone. We own a second home and use it as VRBO. It has been profitable and we get great reviews, but it takes special effort to make that happen.
Would you prefer that Homeaway kick you off rather than posting negative comments?
They must maintain integrity at all costs. If guests think they're being mislead, Homeaway gets the blame.
Potential guests can understand a complainer and they know you can't please everybody.
But, I"ve stayed in units that looked one way and when I got there the reality stunk.
Is that one of your units? Advertised one way, but is circa 1970?
Alternatives: End all criticism of owners homes--- since it can never be fully verified.
If rentor has a problem they can get a lawyer themselves-- like in the good old days. No need
to permanently slam the owners' house forever "in print." Owners cannot criticize rentors-- as it looks
like the owner is nasty to rentors--- and loses future rentors. Now, the rentor has all the
cards in his favor and owners' hands are tied.
HOMEAWAY IS CLEARLY COMPOUNDING THE LIBEL BY NOT CHECKING OUT THE
VERACITY OF RENTORS REMARKS AND IS FULLY COMPLICIT UNDER TEXAS LAW.
What are your alternatives? What other sites are available? What was your worst review. Please share.
board and if it doesn't end it-- it should increase its insurance limits in the 50-100 million catagory
to cover costs of litigation of libel suits.
Everyone knows most comments are purely undocumented garbage put on by a bad tenants
who wants his deposit back so is willing to say anything to get it-- at the owner's expense of future
rentals. Does the Waldorf or Plaza in New York have a message board for guests that the public
can view? Public message board comments should be barred and only private comments to Homeaway
should be allowed. Unless H-away want to establish a libel legal dept. for all of the suits is
