For Verizon to only offer the fabulous Paratek containing antenna BlackBerry Z30 online and not in their showroom floors was a "cut off your nose to spite your face" decision. Verizon is pushing a decreasing margin iPhone ad nauseum with essential exclusion of Z30. That Z30 constantly has the other person on wireless calls remarking how I sound like I am right beside them. Amazing and even in hilly remote areas where Verizon has their map saying they have coverage, my Android phone was dropping calls and iPhone was "burning up,losing battery longevity" trying to hold on to the call or make a call which was making the Verizon map of coverage on Wirelesss look like it was exaggerating their call coverage area map. No problem with the BlackBerry Z30 as it has a high tech Paratek antenna that makes me not lose or drop calls in the borderline areas of Verizon coverage and even some of those non borderline areas. Losing calls and dropping calls is embarrassing VZ, AAPL, and Samsung. The Z30 is called the fastest mobile web browser, has Gold Standard of BlackBerry Mobile Security, super long battery time between charges because of the special Paratek antenna technology. iPhone users have been called wall huggers since their batteries don't go as long between charges as the Z30. Z30 with the 5 inch screen makes the flat keyboard buttons easier and more accurate to type on. The suggested words that come up when you are typing are better than the others because it uses better I believe artificial intelligence to "learn" what words you like to use the most in sentences.
Verizon really dropped the ball when the Z30 came out a couple of months ago. You know the Blackberry 10 OS can now run a lot of Android Apps directly like the other phones. There is no valid logical reason to shun the BlackBerry Z30 as it is felt now to be SUPERIOR in Mobile Security, web browser speed, weak call signal capturing and holding onto the call, and perceived conversation audio quality.
"VZ could be over 90 within 3 years."
I think that's a rather conservative estimate.
This stock is a screaming BUY!!!
Sentiment: Strong Buy
Fed is tapering scheduled to buy only $55 billion/month of bonds after the next fed meeting but bought $104.8 billion of bonds in Feb probably soaking up treasuries from foreign governments. So tapering or no tapering Fed proved it is going to keep 10 year bond rate low and IMO this makes VZ one of the few safe higher yield investments. Is VZ safe ? Well maybe VZ may run into problems if a disruptive wimax technology comes around or an asteroid hits earth but for the next 5 years they are about as safe as any other finiancial entity in the world and they are paying 4.5%. The risk of course is that the stock price goes down, but that is why you buy a 33% position now, 33% more after earnigs and 33% more in Oct if there is the typical summer sell off.
I know there are a lot of pension funds and older folks looking for yield. I think most are waiting for the dust to settle on the VOD buyout and they got their big eyes on VZ. I am in now and looking to buy more.
earnings increased in part because they made a huge buyout deal. in order to get that 23% increase they had to take on more debt. the bad news is more taxes, more debt service, more default risk, lower bond rating and lower bond rating. still all in all i think it was a good deal for VZ though i think they might have went a little too high on the price(130 billion)
thats why i dont like brokers. 47.40 might be a bit high on the price. not that its a bad price..the stock is probably worth more. its a good solid stock but i wouldnt have wanted to get in right after the buyout news because the market tends to be too optimistic about such things.
Just hold! I'm only interested in collecting every three months so that I can not only pay the phone bill but all those other bills as well! Also, the divvy is raised from time to time. I'm averaged in at $25. If I cashed out, I'd only end up in a higher tax bracket!
J.H.C. on a pogo stick ...... you sound like a parrot ...... squawk, squawk, VZ stinks, VZ stinks.
dead stinky fish like bacala is very expensive I do expect a pop just before 4/8 ex-divd date
Vz had a nice run last year , unlikely to see gains like that again , however , VZ is still in a growth mode ,
prints cash , and is poised to begin hefty div increases ..
My advice is to set up a regular investment scheme and dollar cost average , instead of following daily
action , or looking for "dips" ..a regular investment scheme will flatten those prices out over time ..
of course , reinvest those divs ... i will posit that VZ could be over 90 within 3 years ... g
This is an article explaining concisely the benefits and costs Of the new AT&t deal
I saw nothing like this about the VZ-VOD deal
The U.S. wireless industry is a highly competitive market that continues to get more cutthroat. To add a little fuel to the fire, the FCC recently approved an AT&T (NYSE: T ) deal to purchase Leap Wireless (NASDAQ: LEAP ) , which was first proposed back in July.
The deal cost the nation's second-largest wireless carrier $15 per share in cash, or about $1.2 billion, and gives AT&T all of Leap's wireless network, the Cricket brand, and 4.6 million subscribers -- and yet another advantage in the wireless space.
Increasing customers, decreasing competition
The Cricket brand will be an independently operated and wholly own subsidiary of AT&T and comes with a big upside for the company. Cricket's network reaches 97 million people across 35 states, and AT&T is going to give Cricket customers access to its 4G LTE network, effectively adding a huge incentive for current Cricket subscribers, while expanding AT&T's network at the same time.
I bought a small amount a few weeks ago on broker recommendation, something I rarely do. I bought in at around $47.40 ,any thoughts thoughts? At the same time I bought an equal about of another Franklin that I have been tracking for a while that pay over 5% monthly. It might be interesting to see what will be ahead in the next few months.
