Well if you want to see your money stay parked or at most modest returns, it's great. C+ stock for middle class mindset.
Massive debt, incompetent management, fios stinks. The only thing keeping this company alive is its wholesale division and management is killing it softly. I'd get out, there are far better companies.
Looking over Verizon stock its hard to see Any Negative points. Nice dividend, good growth, Sales growth still reasonable. Consumer reports always rates VZ as the most reliable carrier in every region. Is there any weakness to be concerned about ?
YUP .. and now , the action of selling towers seems to be a good revenue generator , as evidenced
by T recently , tho' the deals need to be carefully crafted ... g
If there is any real dynamism down the line , it will be for VZ to breakout the wireline division , as
a separate entity or wholly/mostly own subsidiary ... such a move could unlock some decent
value ... g
it's all from no-nothings ... expecting pr's and headlines to move the price , in the manner of a small cap
tech company ...
for the long term investor , VZ is one of the absolute best ....
most retail investors (who habit these boards ) seem to be wannabe stock experts and are actually
novice traders and are motivated by the "juice" ... it's like these guys who like to say that they
are shorting VZ .. aside from large investors , who will short , in lieu of options , as insurance , anyone
who would short a stock like this , needs some cranial examination ....
If VZ was not a good investment , then you wouldn't see such a high ownership by institutions ..
it's a good , steady plodder ... every once i a while it will have a large move , either up or down , then
trade a range .. trying to time the larger moves is a fools game ...
I would say the same about T , however , the astute investor will do DD and choose one over the other ,
but most likely owns a lot of one and some of the other ... garce
palovesr, well prolly cuz it hasn't had any really good movement in a while but I hear ya. Hold & collect that div
I am heavy T, CTL, FTR and VZ. Looking to dump FTR and add to my VZ. I am betting on a big year next year.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
Yes sir, it's always good to follow the numbers and everything else about VZ.
I started to average into VZ in the summer of 2010. I went to several night baseball games and saw a sea of screens. And I heard that people were walking away from mortgages but not from smartphones as well as other anecdotes that pointed to widespread smartphone addiction. Then I saw Jos LaVorgna who works at Deutsche Bank recommend T & VZ just when VZ was about $26 and T was about $24.50.
Still own both -- wish I had just bought VZ back then but I've added VZ in the $30's & $40's since then.
You knew VZ would march past the VZW acquisition when after the credit rating agencies lowered VZ's debt ratings, VZ's bonds were way over subscribed with PIMCO, Blackrock and other global funds gobbling up that debt and then it all shot up in market trading completely ignoring the downgrades.
sure , trading for pennies ... no real trader trades a stock that has small price movements and
a wad of dividends to cover(for the shorts) ... the big trading $$$'s are in the smaller companies that
have large price swings .... as for shorting ... the pros look for issues that have substantial
downward potential ... not huge utility companies ...
There is nothing wrong with the stock, there may be something wrong with one of your learned skills and that is the skill set known as patience. You might want to learn how to acquire this.
You were saying a week ago there was something wrong and today? You have to have patience with VZ. It has a lot of mood swings !
i held vod for almost 2 years but once vod sold the 45% share to vz, I switched from vod to vz which was a vey easy decision for me at least. i was holder of vod only till it held on to the crown jewel of vzw. wheater vz goes up or down is meaningless because vz is an excellent co. with great management with almost all the growth ahead of it. that 4.5 % is just a gravy added on top.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
"VZ is not in the short term game. May sting, but no big deal."
Agree -- VZ's gross margin leads the industry. The gross margin was 61.6% in Q2.
A VZ 60% gross margin of course has to absorb a lot of capital investment which is why telecoms trade primarily off dividend yield. It's obvious on a yield basis that VZ leads the pack based on a higher potential for profitable wireless growth.
When a customer retention value form subsidy transactions is factored in, the up front subsidy expenses are an investment in long term margin stability by reducing churn. And of course subsidies are a competitive necessity. The answer is to offer new services to grow revenue and control your overall operating expenses.
"Gosh golly your right my timing is not perfect."
Why would anyone care about your timing?
My post wasn't about you. It was about VZ.
Your posts are about you.

Will be at 45 next week as Buffet and his friends are all bailing on this flea bitten dog of a company
it IS next week, are we at $45? LOL

There is 0% that Vz hits 50 in 2014. We have a collar around the $47 mark. Every time Vz shares raise to ~48 all the VOD shareholders who received Vz Stock will sell sell sell. Every time Vz stock falls to ~46 Vz and its proxies will buy buy buy. This is why we have the cycle we are in.

Gosh golly your right my timing is not perfect. and we are far more likely to see 45/46 than 50.
I will buy again when it gets there.
