What are they thinking? VZ CEO should be fired on the spot and the BOD resign. VZ gets essentially nothing but a self inflicted cancer in AOL.
AOL is actually a more updated platform similar to Yahoo and MSN especially with many ads. I still use an E-mail address from 20 years ago along with others.
Actually, I believe it to be a smart move. They are buying them for content & additional advertising platforms and they get Tim Armstrong as a bonus. In the Time warner deal they were not getting content.
I haven’t seen a play has bad as VZ in years. I am now back on track since getting my alerts from Ultimate Stock Alerts (you can find them in Google)
Redbox Instant to shut down October 7
The halt of Verizon's streaming-video joint venture with Redbox shows the challenges new entrants face against Netflix and its ilk, which have already moved onto their next act.
"The joint venture partners made this decision after careful consideration," said a Verizon spokesperson. "The service had not been as successful as either partner hoped it would be. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers."
In a statement to CNET, Verizon said the service just didn't live up to its expectations. A representative for Redbox said growing Redbox Instant's subscriber base over time was a major challenge. The red kiosks' main business of renting DVDs will continue as usual, she said.
The death of Redbox Instant comes also brings the end to the partnership between Redbox and Verizon, according to the carrier. The Verizon representative said the company's relationship with Outerwall "is limited to the Redbox Instant by Verizon joint venture," though Redbox said it has discussed ending only the joint venture.
Coinstar owns the Redbox line and machines. The streaming product line and partnership with Verizon was shut down October 7, 2014. Web search it.
Redbox began internally testing a video streaming service, dubbed Redbox Instant, in July 2012. The service is a joint effort between Redbox and Verizon. On March 14, 2013 Redbox Instant by Verizon officially went public, offering customers a free 1-month trial of an $8/month unlimited streaming service that includes 4 disc rentals from kiosks ($1 more for Blu-ray). The service launched with 4,600 titles from movie companies such as EPIX, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Paramount Pictures, Relativity, and Sony Pictures. According to earlier reports, Redbox Instant was going to allow users to download content to mobile devices for offline viewing. As of 2014, Redbox does not yet offer downloads for offline viewing.[clarification needed] Redbox titles can be rented or purchased, in SD or HD quality. When customers rent a title, they have 30 days to begin watching it and then 48 hours to watch it as many times as they like.
