Not until energy storage technology matures.
PV's main disadvantage is ,, it only works under the sun ,,in case you forgot.
PV will remain as auxiliary power source until then.
Once battery technology and grid infra mature,,, gas and nuclear powered plants will be reduced in numbers but they won't be replaced.
China alone will build 10s nuclear plants in coming decades. And Corean will build a lot more gas and nuclear power plants in Middle East and some South Asian countries. Japan also will join bidding war on nuclear power plants.
Energy storage is far more expensive than PV and grid infra is almost impossible to be modernized within decades,, specially in US.
Once Phoenix Rises and kills all the little ones except chosen few with economies of scale and financial might far greater than present level to bring PV and battery prices down way below present level ,our dream of electricity exclusively from the sun will no longer be a dream but reality.
