No one else has suggested a theory, so I'll venture a guess about why CSE announced March 3 as their investor conference date: -CSE has already submitted their response to the OTS information request of 12/20/07 (that's the request that caused the OTS to post a new decision due date of 4/3/08). -They have reason to believe this was the last OTS request for info. -Their application is therefore final. -Their new (not yet published) OTS decision due date is therefore 60 days from CSE's final submission -They won't hold the conference before the merger closes (as they said last fall. -Counting backwards from 3/3/08 60 days gets us to 1/3/08. -CSE must have filed their response and finalized their application Wed, Jan 2 or earlier. It seems likely the OTS, after this lengthy process with multiple information requests, will not take the full 60 days to decide. A decision seems therefore imminent (within the next couple of weeks).
Interesting theory. I don't recall them saying they wouldn't hold the conference until the deal closes. Do you remember when that was? I do remember they said they would not provide 2008 earnings guidance until the deal closes. Perhaps they will use the conference to provide preliminary guidance even if the deal hasn't closed by then?
