as I don't think that outright selling the seemingly most valuable parts of the portfolio can be viewed as a smart strategy. These patents are gone now with just ONE single company paying for them instead of dozens or hundreds. While the deal might help UPIP to stay afloat two more years it looks bad for investors which of course won't get a special dividend out of this patent sale. With the future license revenue power significantly reduced by this deal and 20% of the purchase price owed to Ericsson I don't think educated investors will applaud the deal tomorrow. Actually I would expect them to take profits and sell their shares into the initial hype. Looking to cover for around $1.50 tomorrow afternoon.
Have you fallen off your rocker? Good luck with that after hours short. The tale of the tape tomorrow won't be a pretty one for you. UPIP will more than likely run hard all the way to end of day Friday, and likely gap up rather large on Monday when the full word gets out. If you're going to short this stock, the time to do it would be sometime Tuesday or Wednesday when it cools down. As for me, I went long and plan to load up about 10,000 more shares tomorrow morning at opening bell. GLTAL.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
I don't think I need any more details - outright selling instead of licensing in fact thwarts the company's communicated business strategy and looks like an act of desperation to stay afloat somewhat longer. Many investors will be eager to unload their shares onto uneducated investors buying the hype in the morning.
The LTE patents are much more valuable. They have hundreds of patents. I've been long this stock and I would stay on for a while, as my patent research looks amazing. Spend some time researching some of their patents on LTE and you would see the value. Ive spent over 200 man hours researching their patents, so whomever is short this stock- I feel BAD for them. I looked at some of their patents vs IDCC, VHC, PRKR, VRNG and they look more validating. Also, the UK trial against Google et al, could be a big precedent where other technology players fold.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
