    Dupont effect?

Anyone have a measure on how the Dupont shortfall relates to DOW? The earnings disappointment for Dupont seems to be caused by items that would also impact Dow.
Any ideas as to the similarities?

    • One analyst said the shortfalls were likely limited to DuPont and should not reflect on its closest competitors.

"Unfortunately for DuPont shareholders, this looks like this could be just DuPont-specific," said Rich Heidemann, an analyst at National City Private Client Group, which has $25 billion under management and owns 1.6 million DuPont shares.

"The management team has had a very hard time delivering on their promises to the investment community, unlike (Dow and Lyondell)," he said.

DuPont shares opened down $1.50, or 3.5 percent, at $41.05 on the New York Stock Exchange. The stock fell 13.3 percent in 2005, compared with a decline of 0.6 percent for the Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI - News), of which it is a component.

    • DOW goes down with Dupont.
