DuPont Gets New General Counsel With Impressive C. V., Stacy L. Fox, Esq

Readers, apparently after all the hiring and promotion under its mandated Diversity Model for a couple of decades, DuPont Senior Management could not find anyone in-house to succeed the ageing and weary current DuPont General Counsel & Senior V. P. about to retire, Tommie Sager, Esq. Sager's claim to fame: not hiring or firing outside law firms which did not have sufficient colour or female gender. Sager also promoted hiring in-house and advancement as a function of pigment or gender. Old-fashioned 1970's style affirmative action, merit-free selection, dominated DuPont LEGAL for years. Sager even got a Diversity trophy named after him at a non-profit.
Back to Stacy Fox, who indeed and in fact earned her position on the basis of extraordinary merit and accomplishment. She is a graduate of the prestigious University of Michigan Law School, one of the top ten law schools in the country. Before DuPont, Ms. Fox was the Executive V. P. of Legal Affairs for Visteon, and Senior Vice President & General Counsel for Sunoco.
Ms. Fox will have her work cut out for, directing DuPont's army of little known lawyers from little known schools with a rather dismal track record in litigation in recent years (as Monsanto's attorneys know with some amusement). Ahead of her, Ms. Fox will have many uphill battles with the truculent bosses of DuPont convincing them of comply with the laws of the land and honour contracts with competitors and suppliers and most importantly, customers. She will undoubtedly be shaken from time to time with Imprelis-size issues of fraud and unethical business practices historically rife at DuPont. We wish her well.

Folks, it is all rather comical. After years of cost slashing, paying candy-shoppe wages to the large majority of
inside lawyers, and trying to save money by hiring graduates of third-tier law schools and promoting by pigment and gender preferences, DuPont Senior Management was in a dilemma. They could not find anyone sufficiently outstanding within the DuPont LEGAL army of little known lawyers from little known schools to succeed outgoing DuPont General Counsel and Senior V. P., Tommie Sager, Esq.
Moreover, we recall for years under the long regime of Ms. Kullman's mentor and predecessor, Chad O. Holliday, Jr. , the General Counsel of DuPont reported to the head of DuPont Public Affairs. And that speaks volumes. At DuPont, cosmetics and PR posturing took precedence over litigation and legal compliance.
Ms. Kullman is making a shrewd move here by bringing aboard Ms. Fox. After all when you are confronted with complex $billion lawsuits, it makes good business sense to have the best possible legal talent in-house and legal leadership.
