In our town we have police officers at all middle and High Schools- the elementary schools are clustered with the middle schools.
This is from the Salt Lake Tribune.
"Atlanta • A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said.
Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown around 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. In the aftermath, a teacher received minor cuts, he said."
The interesting thing for our community is that the armed resource officers blend in and are just part of daily school life. But them just being there reduces fighting and kids driving live idiots at least on campus.
Some people keep wanting to cut all government spending no matter what, but I support the President's efforts to reinstate federal funding for "resource officers", in a blend of psych counseling and armed security (as determined by the school systems THEMSELVES). Schools and students can really be helped with this federal money that Obama wants for them. Only the hysterical believe Obama just wants to take away their guns. We need to keep the crazies away from guns. The NRA was correct in La Pierre initially commenting that attempts by illegals (felons, mentally ill) aren't even prosecuted under existing laws for ATTEMPTING to purchase weapons. The background system he was referring to needs to be upgraded, which isn't a conflict to the 2nd Amendement. Scalia will tell you this, too.
