OK, when Jesus did it, the poor person actually needed their feet washed. I know this is some odd symbolic gesture, very odd as it is, but wouldn't just a chat about God suffice for these 6 inmates? Don't most hard core criminals always find GOD in jail after they've committed unthinkable crimes anyway? Maybe the ol' Pope should soap up some feet of those robbing banks BEFORE they do the deed, that way they'll have to slip and slide and take their chances on those slick Italian marble floors and in this sense the Pope might do the practical thing Jesus would have done by actually preventing a crime? No? Just a thought. Were all the Pope's "feet washers"? ~~~hey you, come over here---want your feet washed?~~~~Sorry, but it's just too fetish-y sounding and that's cool as an admitted fetish but it's just too weird coming from a religious leader. Now wait, there are a few "religions" where almost ALL of the participants could use a good shower and I'd have no problem with their religious leaders hosing them down in mass !!!! But that's more of a practical thing rather than a religious one - P. U. !!!!
NJ and Keep. Are you two serious in your criticisam? Try and understand why things are done. Doesn't mean you have to agree, but may be you won't sound so ignorant.
"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."
Nj, maybe we shouldn't be so hard on the new Pope, because if he's washing feet, then he's not trying to put a stop on scientific research. Remember that the Catholic church jailed Galileo for heresey and put him under house arrest, because he proved scientifically that the Earth was not the center of the Universe, and it only took hem 400 years to finally admit that they were wrong.
