Recent PSA from some of the clueless elites.
"The clip, which features, among others, Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon, Naomi Watts, Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert De Niro and Christoph Waltz, is part of an ongoing campaign advocating for the disarmament of stockpiles by the United States, Russia and other countries.
"The message from national security experts and citizens around the world is clear: The only way to eliminate the global nuclear danger is to eliminate all nuclear weapons," said Michael Douglas in a news release. "
Mr. Douglas might be a bit naive re the 'elimination' of nuclear weapons in that a weapon can be disassembled, but the key bits last a long time. Also, the thing with nuclear weapons is that you can make more. So, getting rid of the ones you, or others, have isn't all that significant.
More significantly, the Soviet Union proposed some time back (when there was a Soviet Union) to scrap, get rid of, eliminate, etc. nuclear weapons. The U.S. said no. (USA has done some dumb things, but this one is near the top.)
Lastly, and the most significant point of all: Nuclear weapons have absolutely no military application, as in zero, zilch, nada. The only use for nuclear weapons, which is the only use to which the two that were used were used, is against civilians. Question: Why have weapons whose only application is against civilians?
Jus - "The U.S. said no. (USA has done some dumb things, but this one is near the top.)" So what would the world look like if the US no longer had nukes, but the likes of Pakistan, China, NK and possibly Iran did?
Nuclear weapons have absolutely no military application? Seriously? Their primary application is the one that has worked so well - their deterrent effect.
Keep, the US and Russia have been significantly reducing their nuclear stocks for 40 years, many types of testing have been prohibited. Those efforts have helped to slow proliferation around the world, but as we've seen with India, Pakistan, NK etc, these weapons aren't difficult to make. (a delivery system is a bigger challenge) but any thought that we would eliminate our nuclear weapons is pure folly and would eliminate our deterrent effect immediately - simple example, without it Taiwan would cease to be independent pretty quickly.
What I turely scoff at,mis you folks who don't want nuclear weapons until it becomes a tough fight like with Iran. All talk most of you Libroids.
