Former GOP Representative and Tea Party darling David Duke kicked out of Italy...
David Duke, a former GOP member of Louisiana’s state House of Representatives, has been kicked out of Italy for what their officials called an attempt “to establish an organization aiming to exterminate the black and Jewish races in Europe.” This expulsion has been a long time coming, and it is only taking place after Duke’s appeal of a 2009 decision to ban him from traveling or residing in the area. It’s the white supremacist’s link to the GOP back in the US, however, that makes this story even more jarring.
David Duke and his history of hate.
Duke’s long journey to the LA State House and his getting banned from the Schengen area, a region of 26 countries in Europe, began when he formed the White Youth Alliance, a neo#$%$ group, while he was a student at Louisiana State University. He later went on, with his college degree in hand, to found the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan group in 1974. There’s no doubt that any bigot can start a racist club, but it’s Duke’s methods of coercion that became more noticeable and more dangerous
It was Duke’s plan to help the Klan gain acceptance in the mainstream, and he did this by presenting what seemed to be a moderate approach on network television. He focused on the concerns of conservatives, such as affirmative action and immigration, as a method of drawing people towards his white supremacist views. His methods of appealing to people’s fears are similar to those used by “militia” groups to increase their numbers in America.
Election as LA state house rep.
Duke later left the Klan and went on to form the National Association for the Advancement of White People (NAAWP). Then, in 1989, there was a special election for the seat in District 89 of the LA House of Representatives. By now, Duke had already founded several white supremacist groups; yet the LA GOP still felt he was the best man for the job. What’s even more sad is the fact that Duke sold literature promoting denial of the Holocaust during his time in office.
Now keep in mind that it’s not as if it was a wholly different time in America when the LA GOP elected this racist to office. It was 1989. This was the year the presidency saw its first Bush, so it’s a relatively recent time in US history. Yet somehow, in a country where certain members of the Supreme Court don’t think racism is a problem anymore, an ardent white supremacist who wants to exterminate Jews and Blacks managed to get elected in the state of Louisiana.
Exile and Tea Party affiliation.
Luckily for educated and non-bigoted people in Europe, hate isn’t taken quite as lightly over there as it is in America. Denying the Holocaust is actually a crime in well over a dozen countries. Duke was kicked out of Switzerland in 2009 due to his furthering of white supremacist propaganda, and after being banned from all countries in the Schengen, he crept back into Italy under a fake name in 2011.
Duke’s attorney said that he is unaware of where his client is at the moment, but claims that he is no longer in Italy. Luckily for this crazy bigot, he likely always has a home in America. In fact, if things do a sudden about face in America, Duke could well end up as president since it’s been reported that he has been urged by thousand of activists within the Tea Party to take a run at the presidency. He even released a video speaking directly to Tea Party members about the “discrimination” that white people have to go through.
Of course, let’s not forget: there’s no racial undertone to the Tea Party.
