    O/T- Mental Institutions/ Asylums

We have not given this much though on the MB but we don't have enough of them,, In the olden days, the crazies were put away for their own safety and to keep them from hurting others,, for many reasons of rights,, many of these asylums were closed,, now we have scores of folks with mental illness that don't get help and some need to be put away,, many of the past asylums were horrible but that can all be changed now,, we need to get back to helping these folks and it would save money in the long run,, less folks in jail that really need mental help,, less violence,, management of both in/out patient care,, less homeless folks,,
Our tax money needs to go to programs that can truly help people,, Odipshietcare is nothing but a bunch of dam taxes, most of which won't do a dam thing for healthcare,, I've been a ER/ Family doctor for over 20 years and what I have seen in the last 6 months has taken away from healthcare instead of improving things,, the paperwork is endless, you cannot get proper testing, medicines are being changed by the govt,, home health care has been dramatically reduced, right when the sick and the old need it,, it's terrible what they are doing to patient care,, I would like to see what they are going to do with mental health, cause nothing has happened yet,,

    • But Doc, then we'd be deprived of AynnRandy, Loony Pole and the Fraud Man for entertainment on this MB. They'd be locked up......

    • Doc, remember who shut down the mental institution and asylums, Ronald Reagan:

"One month prior to the election, President Carter had signed the Mental Health Systems Act, which had proposed to continue the federal community mental health centers program, although with some additional state involvement. Consistent with the report of the Carter Commission, the act also included a provision for federal grants “for projects for the prevention of mental illness and the promotion of positive mental health,” an indication of how little learning had taken place among the Carter Commission members and professionals at NIMH. With President Reagan and the Republicans taking over, the Mental Health Systems Act was discarded before the ink had dried and the CMHC funds were simply block granted to the states. The CMHC program had not only died but been buried as well. An autopsy could have listed the cause of death as naiveté complicated by grandiosity."

Right again, bumC, and all because the Repubs would not tolerate even consideration of a public option or single payer program which is why every other developed nation in the world provides HIGHER QUALITY UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE for HALF THE PRICE of our USofA.
