This story has been misreported. It's not going to reduce jobs, it is going to allow people who are chronically sick to not have to work JUST for healthcare. That means elderly people can retire, and young people can get jobs you numbskull.
CBO DIRECTOR: ACTUALLY, OBAMACARE WILL REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT
The Huffington Post | 02/05/2014
PRESIDENT OBAMA'S HEALTH CARE REFORM LAW ISN'T GOING TO KILL 2.5 MILLION JOBS, Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Elmendorf told the House Budget Committee on Wednesday.
ONE DAY AFTER MULTIPLE MEDIA OUTLETS MISINTERPRETED A CBO REPORT ON OBAMACARE, ELMENDORF CLARIFIED THE CBO'S POSITION DURING THE HEARING. THE FEDERAL AGENCY, ELMENDORF SAID, HAD FOUND OBAMACARE “SPURS EMPLOYMENT AND WOULD REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS."
“WHEN YOU BOOST DEMAND FOR LABOR IN THIS KIND OF ECONOMY, YOU ACTUALLY REDUCE THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR WORK CAN FIND MORE WORK," REP. CHRIS VAN HOLLEN (D-MD.) ASKED ELMENDORF.
“YES, THAT’S RIGHT,” ELMENDORF RESPONDED.
A NUMBER OF NEW ORGANIZATIONS WRONGLY INTERPRETED THE AGENCY'S REPORT WEDNESDAY AS SAYING THAT OBAMACARE "KILLED" 2.5 MILLION JOBS. IN REALITY, THE AGENCY FOUND OBAMACARE COULD SHRINK THE WORKFORCE BY THE EQUIVALENT OF 2.5 MILLION FULL-TIME WORKERS OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS.
BUT THAT'S NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING. OBAMACARE COULD CAUSE A REDUCTION IN EMPLOYMENT BECAUSE IT MAKES HEALTH CARE MORE ACCESSIBLE, ALLOWING AMERICANS TO QUIT JOBS THEY ONLY KEEP FOR THE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE. THAT'S NOT KILLING JOBS. IT'S GIVING WORKERS THE ABILITY TO QUIT JOBS THEY DON'T WANT.
REPRESENTATIVE VAN HOLLEN CALLED THE MEDIA OUT FOR MISREADING THE REPORT.
"AS THE MEDIA HAS THEMSELVES CONFESSED, THEY BOUGHT -- HOOK, LINE AND SINKER -- SOME OF THE TALKING POINTS FROM OUR REPUBLICANS, AND UNFORTUNATELY MISREPRESENTATIONS GO AROUND THE WORLD THREE TIMES BEFORE THE TRUTH BEGINS TO CATCH UP," VAN HOLLEN SAID.
As pointed out by Sarah Kliff of the Washington Post, it's extremely difficult to accurately predict the long-term employment consequences of Obamacare, a nearly unprecedented expansion of the country's health care industry:
"The body of research on how health insurance expansion affects labor force participation is far from complete, ecoomists say, mostly because there aren't that many health insurance expansions to study. Researchers don't know for certain how many people keep their jobs because they provide health insurance -- or how many would leave their jobs if they had access to affordable health coverage elsewhere."

Have actually read the report instead of just quoting the headlines? If the projections prove accurate the lost workers will be those who voluntarily leave the workforce because they will no longer be tethered to their jobs because they need the insurance coverage that their employment provides. Some will be folks who would other wise retire but were planning on staying on the job until they turned 65 because they would lose their insurance if they did so. Now they can retire because they can buy affordable insurance even if they have a per-existing condition. Others will leave for the same reason because they want to start their own business. There will be as many reasons as there are people in situation, but one thing is clear. in all of these case. They will be voluntarily leaving their jobs, not being shoved out of the door. For each one that leaves, a job will open up for someone currently unemployed and there will be one less person that the government will have to pay unemployment benefits. Any insurance program which attempts to provide more universal coverage would produce the same result. One thing conservatives have not figured out yet, while the public is not really happy about Obamacare, an overwhelming majority do not want it axed; they want it "fixed" Conservatives have already lost their fight in front of the Supreme Court and there is little chance that they to both take over both houses of congress and the presidency before the program is so embedded in the national fabric that it will be irremovable. They will probably keep the house and have a chance at taking the senate, but if so Obama will be waiting with his veto. Since they haven't anyone who can beat Hillary, they are screwed again. So their choices come down to two: Either help fix the program or leave it alone. Victory is not in their future.
Great points, cajun. It's hard to believe the RWNJs are taking such a straightforward stand against more freedom for our citizens, especially since they are so obsessed with having all kinds of things jammed down their throats by Obama.

REPUBLICANS DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF "CHOICE". AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT ABORTION

Greg Sargent with the inconvenient truth:
As noted here yesterday, Republicans went mad with glee at the new Congressional Budget Office report on deficits and the Affordable Care Act, with multiple GOP officials claiming it showed the law will kill over two million jobs. That was false.
Under questioning today before the House Budget Committee from Dem Rep. Chris Van Hollen, CBO DIRECTOR DOUGLAS ELMENDORF CONFIRMED THAT IN REALITY, HIS REPORT SUGGESTS OBAMACARE WILL REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT:
The CBO report found that OBAMACARE — THROUGH SUBSIDIZING HEALTH COVERAGE – WOULD REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF HOURS WORKERS CHOOSE TO WORK, TO THE EQUIVALENT OF 2.5 MILLION FULL-TIME WORKERS OVER 10 YEARS. THIS WAS WIDELY SPUN BY REPUBLICANS AS A LOSS OF 2.5 MILLION JOBS.
TO COUNTER THIS, VAN HOLLEN CITED THE REPORT’S FINDINGS ON OBAMACARE’S IMPACT ON LABOR DEMAND, RATHER THAN SUPPLY. ON PAGE 124, THE REPORT ESTIMATES THAT THE ACA WILL “BOOST OVERALL DEMAND FOR GOODS AND SERVICES OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE EXPANSION OF MEDICAID AND FROM ACCESS TO THE EXCHANGE SUBSIDIES ARE PREDOMINANTLY IN LOWER-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS AND THUS ARE LIKELY TO SPEND A CONSIDERABLE FRACTION OF THEIR ADDITIONAL RESOURCES ON GOODS AND SERVICES.” THIS, THE REPORT SAYS, “WILL IN TURN BOOST DEMAND FOR LABOR OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.”
“WHEN YOU BOOST DEMAND FOR LABOR IN THIS KIND OF ECONOMY, YOU ACTUALLY REDUCE THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR WORK CAN FIND MORE WORK, RIGHT?” VAN HOLLEN ASKED ELMENDORF.
“YES, THAT’S RIGHT,” ELMENDORF SAID.
Republicans also like the idea of slavery --- after all, people being forced to stay in underpaid jobs they loathe, without opportunity or mobility just to keep their health insurance is good for business.

First of all, Medicaid is shiety insurance and takes away more than it gives,, second, lower income households are usually the freeloaders that are able bodied folks that are lazy and won't work, thereby living off our tax money,, ya know, the parasites,, and the idea of slavery, well all men can better themselves with effort, but there is no pride there,, something of which is lost in America right now,, mandatory drug testing for all on wellfare,, I want my tax dollars to go to deserving folks that need help, not the bums,,
