One never knows but some large conglomerate or would be conglomerate might try to take over adm. It might seem counter intuitive but cash rich big oil might want to diversify, although there are huge bargains in the oil patch for them to grow reserve life probably their main goal. We see some big oil getting into ethanol like refiner vlo and bp, but if i were the head of a big oil and were allowed i just might consider buying adm they would get both diversification and ethanol and probably some industrial platform chemical potential from bio means. imho oil (energy) and agriculture are the biggest growth areas going into the future.
If Gm and or Chrysler bankrupt yeah i think the market takes another leg down to way oversold condition. If this happens some of the really good blue chip companies are going to get picked off by the smart money. I include adm on that list, but of course adm might be the one making the acquistions in the next year as it could be one of the few companies still generating big earnings. Still like bonds to some extent here as inflation is off in the future. Sure inflation is coming with the government spending but not for at least 1 and probably 2 year out. Have got to like the adm dividend.
