    global fish stocks

It would seem to me that global fish stocks are coming under pressure for many reasons like over fishing, pollution (gom, bp oil etc). Given that fish is the protein of choice for many and in many cases much cheaper than other meat proteins, we should see more fish farming. I would think the techniques of fish farming are going to be improved with things like moveable fish pens etc. This should create increased demand for fish feeds that adm supplies. Given the growing world population its an organic growth area for adm.

    • Saw a news clip today with chefs calling for more "ocean wise" fish. The commentator said that we could see a total collape of commerical ocean fishing by 2048. While i wont be investing in the year 2048, it is clear that pressure on fish stocks, commercial fishing and price will come soon. It would seem the shift toward fish farming (aqua culture) is going to happen as wild type gets too expensive.

      • "ocean wise" will eventually mean fish farms, and adm is going to be a major supplier to those protein farmers. Intersting how the news clip said that fish have got to be seen more as wild life like land animals. He compared eating blue fin tuna to eating Siberian tiger. Sure wild type is best but is going to get a lot more costly, he presented a big list of "endangered species" many popular at the grocery today. Fish farming is likely to become a major growth industry, probably within a decade.

    • Good point. I think we pay too much attention to ethanol and not enough to feeding humans and their livestock.
