There are rumblings that a growing biopharmaceutical company is considering locating operations in Philadelphia — or at least expanding its presence in the area.
OPKO Health Inc., which is based in Miami, Fla., is reportedly looking at not only the Philadelphia area but also Northern New Jersey and Palm Beach, Fla. It needs about 85,000 square feet of space, according to people familiar with the situation. A call to the company wasn’t immediately returned.
OPKO is a specialty healthcare company that seeks the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic disorders. The company’s chief executive and chairman is Dr. Phillip Frost, who is also chairman of Teva Pharmaceuticals, which has its North American headquarters in North Wales, Pa.
