    • Sorry to say, but this has nothing to do with ALU! The sold the Name 2008/2009 to an Chinese Company and get only License Fees for the Name. ALU has completly shut down or sold an Stakes in Device making.

      • It seems Seeking Alpha does not know this:
6:46 PM CES phone news roundup: 1) Huawei is trying to one-up Samsung's 5.5" Galaxy Note II by launching the 6.1" Ascend Mate. Will consumers finally reject a phone for being too big? 2) Vizio, bane of TV brands worldwide, is releasing 2 Android devices - one with a 5" 1080p display, another with a 4.7" display and unibody design. Given Vizio's track record, expect pricing to be aggressive. 3) Alcatel (ALU) is reaffirming its smartphone commitment by launching 3 new Android models, one of which has an OLED display and is just 6.45mm thick. 4) Sprint (S) says its first Windows Phone 8 devices will arrive this summer, courtesy of Samsung and HTC. • you da man, romangerasch. As ways very rational. Always very thorough... but as long as the name says Alcatel, it's like the "tostitos fiesta bowl" or the "Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl" which is now simply called the "Chick-fil-A Bowl"

I'm not sure I think of nacho chips or chicken when I think of these football games, but, the brand sticks in my mind and when thinking of chicken and not cows, or salsa and chips, these things unconsciously find their way to the forefront of my selection process.

In the same sense that when I see a phone that says Alcatel, I think Alcatel Lucent before I think of TCL and China.

        stay sharp and accurate!

        Sentiment: Strong Buy

      • License deals are the best deal. Collecting cash for doing nothing?

    • Seen it. Alcatel Lucent has something like a 45% stake on those Ultra thin one touch phones or whatever they are called.

I'm not sure how much impact this has in the short term picture, but if you are thinking long term it is interesting.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

      • Short and long it's good news. New and innovating products being show cased lets the public know Alcatel means business! Apparently they are claiming to have the thinnest smart phone in the world.

"Alcatel Unveils World’s Thinnest, Lightest Smartphones at CES 2013"

Meet the world’s newest titleholders for the lightest and thinnest smartphones. Alcatel is unveiling a slew of products at CES 2013, starting with the One Touch Idol Ultra. Weighing a barely-there 4.1 ounces and measuring 5.29 x 2.7 x 0.25 inches, Alcatel says the Ultra is currently the world’s slimmest smartphone. (The iPhone 5 was the thinnest at 0.3 inches.)
The Idol Ultra also boasts a 4.7-inch AMOLED display, a 1.2-GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). A 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and 8-MP rear camera round out the specs.
Alcatel is also laying claim to the title of world’s lightest smartphone. The 3.8-ounce One Touch Idol is even lighter than the 3.9-ounce iPhone 5 and measures 5.2 x 2.65 x 0.32 inches. The One Touch Idol also runs Jelly Bean and has a 1.2-GHz dual-core CPU. However, the Idol only comes with 512MB of RAM and a 4.7-inch QHD IPS display. The smartphone does have a sharper 2.1-MP front-facing camera to go along with its 8-MP rear shooter, which captures video in 1080p.
