I find it mind boggling that you keep harping on about this. If you speak multiple languages you should know it's much easier to avoid those "oops" in your native languages. I suppose Dutch and French are the native languages of Mr. Verwaayen. Also, the context in which he made this statement might help understand it.
"... one would assume that the foremost executive skill REQUIRED, bar none, would have been EXECUTION. ..."
IMO, at that time, the most urgent executive skill was to move ALU back onto a path of marketable innovation, which clearly occurred during his tenure.
