Will XOM split? One has to look at history:
1 split, 26 July 1976 split 2/1 price; $107.75 new $58.875
2. 15 September 1987 split 2/1 price: $94.00 new $47.00, 62.63% increase
3. split 14 April 1997 split 2/1 price, $101.25 new $50.625, 46.42% increase
4. Split 19 July 2001 split 2/1 price, $84.25 new $42.125, 60.00% increase
5. price 7 April 2011 $85.18 should a split happen XOM increased 49.45%
Past history make it possible for a split to occur. Will it happen 50/50.
I have held XOM stock since the days it was the Standard Oil Co of NJ.
If you know the company's history you will know that a century ago it was a huge monopoly and in fact most of the domestic oil companies of today were spun off the oil Standard when it was broken up by the government decree.
As a result the company is highly sensitive to being a "rich man's stock", e.g., AAPL, GOOG, etc. and will split the stock when it gets between 100-120 a share.
If you go back over the last half century, I don't recall one instance of the split being over 2/1.
Moreover, a split costs tha company millions in administrative fees and is not undertaken because of the augury coming from a horse's behind.
