    • Ryder is getting "beat down" because they are losing accounts all over the country.

      • Ryder may be "losing accounts all over the country," as you say.

However, this certainly doesn't mean that this is business worth keeping. Bear in mind that the same economic headwinds affecting the leasing business is affecting the customers of the entire industry.

Moreover, if you take a hard look at the balance sheets of the "lost business," in general you will find that they are considerably over-leveraged in their capital structures.

Therefore, the possibility of rejected contracts post-petition wouldn't warrant aggressive contract pricing on the part of financially disciplined (and financially sound) companies, like Ryder, to maintain this business in the current economic environment.

The issue facing those who have "won" this business goes well beyond rejected leases in bankruptcy. Consider the impact that overextending to credit risks may have on their own balance sheets. Should the U.S. even marginally contract and result in higher credit risk Chapter 11 filings, the impact will be felt, quite acutely, on the lessors' balance sheets in terms of borrowing costs.

Assuming borrowing costs increase, the entire cap structures of these lessors is now at risk, as the ability to generate cash and thereby service debt diminishes.

So, if we look at this prolonged malaise as structural vs. cyclical (which I believe is the right way to look at it), Ryder is, quite frankly, acting very responsibly in their pricing models.

This is why Ryder has the best balance sheet in the business. And, in times like these, the best balance sheet is the Ace of Spades.

      • heres whats going on.

1 Obama is killing this economy

2 truck lease and rentals thrive in growing economy

3 nobody needs xtra rentals when obama is killing our economy

4 companys are hurting, hence, laying off poeple and cutting their trucking fleet to save money, because Obamas eurotrash socialist economy is going to kill us all!!!
