No you have it all wrong. You see what happened is that there were some traders still holding on to 435/440 calls they bought earlier in the session for cheap when it dropped below 438 or so. The MMs were none to pleased and had to do something to rectify that little problem. Problem solved in a matter of microseconds. Call buyers got wiped out.
