This is easy...now pay attention. Apple is planning to buyback shares this quarter. However, they likely do not know how many shares they will be buying back. Therefore, they can't know how many outstanding shares will remain in the float at the end of the quarter. So, they can not estimate EPS since they do not know the "S" part of the ratio...E/S. got it? Spread the word.
Please Todd no need to be patronizing, my logic is the same as yours i.e not sure what the split will be hence they do not know the S part of the ratio E/S. They already announced the same plans for their buybacks no in my opinion no surprises there.
