Apple Inc. Message Board

Serious: When will AAPL put cash to WORK?

Will they ever? Have they ever?

I simply can't understand why the Board has not authorized a sizable buyback, or used the massive cash surplus to acquire innovative or synergestic technologies? Scratching my bald spot trying to figure out what they are thinking....

And, yes, I think the Street is punishing AAPL for not being responsible stewards for their shareholders.

    • Maybe AAPL plans a buyback when the stock is at a bargain price? When I look at growth, yields, and price-over-earnings, and compare AAPL to AMZN, it seems that maybe wall street is dumb enough to drive the price of AAPL to even better bargain prices. Then would be a good time to start a buyback and double the dividend to get the price of AAPL to rocket up to $1000 per share and a price over earnings of 19.

GOOG didn't have much luck with shareholder price when they invested more cash into wind or solar electric power generation. And AAPL probably doesn't say much about what's in their development pipeline because new products in the future may cause current sales to decline when customers stop buying to wait for the next product. So I guess AAPL will continue to make new products and may do buybacks when the price of AAPL reaches a bottom.

      • 1.95 billion put to work repurchasing shares under ASR. In the first quarter of 2013, 2,582,782 shares were initially delivered to the Company. This does not represent the final number of shares to be delivered under the ASR. These shares were retired and accounted for as a reduction to shareholders’ equity in the Company’s Condensed Consolidated Balance Sheet.
