I am an i.t. manager and used to think the way you did. After 20 years in the business, I would spend the money and buy a mac laptop. The reasons are numerous. But if cost is your primary concern, then never buy an Apple product. I believe value, function, reliability, service, compatibility and many other factors should weigh in your decision. Find the best tool and technology for your personal needs that you can afford. Please do not buy a Windows laptop just to spite Apple and its shareholders.
Apple hasn't "lost" anything. They have kept their prices and margins high specifically for the purpose of not having to endure *you* as a customer.
It's fine if you want to be a cheapskate and wind up buying junk. The world has been using money to keep the riff-raff out for centries.
The only problem for apple is people found out their stock certificates don't have rounded corners, so it's not cool to own apple stock anymore.
We are very pricy and should consider the quantity we could sell with mass production. If you ask me, everyone would buy Apple MAC's if they were competitive to other PC's in price. There is something to be said with getting 100's of millions of customers in your eco system.
