Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S are two most popular smartphones in the world

"In the fourth quarter of the previous year, iPhone 5 of Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) was the world’s bestselling smartphone which was followed by the iPhone 4S indicating that it was the second most popular, even more than Samsung’s Galaxy S3. According to the new data that was received from the Strategy Analytics, during the holiday quarter, Apple has shipped 27.4 million iPhones . That amounted to about 13% share of the smartphones that are shipped globally. On the other hand, 17.4 million units of the iPhone 4S were shipped during the fourth quarter. So, even after being launched in the year 2011, the iPhone 4S managed to grab 8% of the smartphone market even after the iPhone 5 was released.
According to Strategy Analytics’ Senior Analyst, Neil Shah, the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S are presently the two most popular models of smartphones in the world. Together they have been able to take over 21% of the global smartphone market, that is not even inclusive of iPhone 4.
According to Neil Mawston, the Executive Director at Strategy Analytics, the performance of iPhone has been pretty impressive considering the premium pricing of the devices.
The third most popular smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy S3, that shipped 15.4 million pieces in the fourth quarter. It has 7% share of the global smartphone market. This model of Samsung has enjoyed a lot of popularity over a long time in North America, Asia and Europe. However, the demand for the Samsung Galaxy S3 has increased and under such circumstances the company will be very eager to launch its Galaxy S4 in the forthcoming weeks so that it can compete with the Apple’s iPhone range. Though Galaxy S3 was outsold by the iPhone 5, it did not come as a surprise as Samsung had launched its handset a long time before Apple."
