Apple Could Get Healthy with a Meaningful Acquisition!
Samsung is nipping at Apple's heels & may wind up swallowing their legs if they don't wise up!
I recently found this story & believe that Apple could use its huge cash hoard to buy into healthcare & grow into a whole new area of technology.
Merck and Samsung Bioepis Enter Biosimilars Development and Commercialization Agreement.
Under the agreement, Samsung Bioepis will be responsible for preclinical and clinical development, process development and manufacturing, clinical trials and registration. Merck will be responsible for commercialization. Samsung Bioepis will receive an upfront payment from Merck, product supply income and will be eligible for additional payments associated with pre-specified clinical and regulatory milestones. Further financial terms were not disclosed.
“Samsung Bioepis has been building the capabilities needed to develop high-quality biosimilars,” said Christopher Hansung Ko, Ph.D., CEO of Samsung Bioepis. “With this development and commercialization agreement, Samsung takes a significant step toward becoming a major player in the biopharmaceutical industry.”
Samsung Bioepis, a joint venture between Samsung Biologics and Biogen Idec, aims to develop affordable and high-quality biopharmaceutical and biosimilar products.
Samsung already has the lead on connecting us to our home through their appliance manufacturing facilities & they could become the leader in healthy connectivity as well.
Anyone with ideas on what Apple could do in the healthcare arena & home connectivity?
steve jobs drew up a few plans for innovative health care devices before he died. only a few people have seen these drawings, including job's biographer. i suspect mossberg knows about these plans as well. healthcare would be a great place for apple. there's no other industry i can imagine that needs more innovation, better end-user design and experience, better engineering and design than health care. there's also a ton of money in health care, a ripe and prime market for apple to enter. perhaps apple can make a more comfortable breathing device, more comfortable blood pressure monitor, a better designed hospital bed that can use minor gestures to contact nurses and doctors to easily communicate how you are feeling. right now hospitals still use buzzers. what about a touch screen detailing what you need from a nurse? how much would you pay to be more comfortable during your weakest most vulnerable moments? steve jobs had a lot of time thinking about the next new products during his 2 year fight with cancer. jobs knew cook wasn't a products guy per say so worked very hard with cook and ives to build a pipeline of new products for the next few years. jobs ideas aren't spent yet. he still has a few products up his sleeve that may transform yet another industry.
