Availability of the iPhone 5S could be limited initially by low fingerprint reader yield rates, DigiTimes reported Monday. Production problems with the fingerprint sensor at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) could reduce third-quarter iPhone 5S shipments to 3 million to 4 million units, down from the 10 million originally planned, DigiTimes said.
In the past, this may have been a worry. However, it has become well known that Apple is using 2 or 3 assemblers, currently. 3-4 million X 3 suppliers = 9-12 million iPhones ready for the launch. Sounds about right to me.
