Hasn't Jobs been dead for 2 years? Does he know it? "We'll let somebody else make the money from now on," he said on Closing Bell. Great, that's something I would like to do. "I came to the conclusion that it was unlikely that a man as really awful as I think that Steve Jobs was, could possibly create a great company for the long term. I just don't believe bad guys do well in the long run," Robertson said. Henry Ford was a nasty man, he was anti-Semitic and intrusive in the private lives of his workers. One of these days Ford will get it's just dessert too. But then Ford had the right idea: "Quality means doing it right when no one is looking." Just like Apple and Jobs.
Not so out of line.
I see what he is getting at, and have wondered similar things myself. If guy has such personality flaws, maybe he will create a company with big flaws.
Having said that, a company can heal after a leader like that leaves.
When I was a Bloomberg, for instance, Mike was a bit like Steve Jobs, running things his way. When he left, things got a little weird for a while. Then I left too, for my own, somewhat related reasons. Then a few years later I heard things were going better than ever.
So the upshot is that Robertson may have a point and at the same time this company could find its way, as it seems to be doing.
