Apple is probably making the same mistake as it did with Macintosh in 1980s

Apple likes to make it ecosystem closed in order to maximize the profitability. Over time, its spirit of relentless innovation will fade, and eventually become overrun by the competitors.

Apple products under Steven Jobs were great not because it has better screens or better resolution, etc. They are full of surprise. They brighten your day. They make you dream .... It is like channeling God's vision.

But now, I am not sure. There is no doubt that AAPL will continue to produce quality products, but something is lost ........

    • Fascinating, but that's NOT the mistake they made in the early 90's with the Mac, the problem was they made too MANY different models which were basically functionally identical (the Performa series, etc) and overpriced, so folks turned to the clone makers (briefly authorized) to cover the bottom tiers, but the clone makers started making faster hardware than Apple's (PowerComputing).

Now there are no more clones, much fewer selections but with more variety from BTO orders, and a compact workstation form factor with two $3500 graphics cards built into a machine that costs significantly less than that if you include the REST of the system (multicore CPU, multiple high speed interfaces, no moving parts except for ONE fan rotor . . . . ) all of which fits in the space of a 2 liter bottle of soda.

No, Apple doesn't have ANY of the problems they had in the early 90's.

If they bring back the Soda Salesman again, however, I'm outta here.

      Sentiment: Hold

    • There was a song: " You lost that loving feeling ....." That is it!

    • Starbuck founder Howard Schultz used to say: My coffee does not fill up your stomach; it fills up your soul.

Under Steve Jobs, Apple design and manufacture products that touch people's souls. Can this tradition continue without Steve Jobs?
