WRONG - it IS "Record date" which is critical

and consequently THAT s the date we focus on because IT is the date which the company is required to focus upon - we can't dictate when a trade settles.

You are correct that the ex-dividend date can be any date prior BUT it does NOT dictate squat.

Straight of the Website is BELOW:

It’s the RECORD DATE that really matters, but without this added warning (ex-dividend date) people would mistakenly place buy orders a day before the record date and not realize they would still miss it because the transaction will take a few days to settle

    • "we can't dictate when a trade settles"????? Ever heard the phrase "T + 3", doggie breath? PLEASE make one of your New Year's resolutions to get a clue. YOU posted incorrect information, which several regular posters here have pointed out. Everybody makes mistakes, so it's OK as long as you've learned something from it. If you still think you're right, for the next dividend buy some PWE shares ON the ex-dividend date and see what happens; it'll be an expensive lesson, but at least you'll learn something....

    • You need to back up and partake in reading comprehension.
